The tweet largely is ridiculous. I do wonder why military get discounts. I suppose it's kind of "built in", rather like the fact we just all tip waitresses now, so it's kind of part of the overall compensation package. They are not rewarded for being murderers, though. And it's up to businesses, so their choice. And I don't think they are by any means over-compensated for their profession.
Not sure why old people get discounts. Some of them need them, but in fact the wealthiest group of americans are...*drum roll*, seniors. They have the highest net worth. Really we should be giving "junior" discounts to people who are 19 and starting out with a crap job and a ton of debt.
But again i don't really care because it's a businesses' choice. At least until dems start complaining excessively about it and force some anti-discrimination law on businesses for discounting certain groups of people but not others.

I think some of the thinking behind the military discount today is too make up past sins in regards to the way vets were once treated.
Another reason, IMO, is a marketing thing. These companies love to be able to say they are probably military.

Likewise in many sectors, businesses that offer discounts to certain groups – such as the elderly or those enlisted in the military – is a solid Public Relations strategy since it contrasts a business making an effort to help people vs. a perception that businesses as money-hungry. Like pricing, reputation is a key factor in customer aquisition, brand loyalty and retention.
Discounts can be cheaper and more effective than bloated business advertising budgets. The active military / veteran consumer market, 47 million Americans, including veteran spouses and families, has a combined purchasing power of $1.4 trillion and if a business finds a way to make that market sector feel respected and honored, including offers of discounts to back up those sentiments, then that business woll will likely do a good a job of customer acquisition and retention.
Active Military and Vets often share a common bond of service, and any business that can tap into that community in a way that feels genuine stands ready to make marketplace gains.

I think it's great when businesses want to offer discounts to Veterans. To me it's a sign of respect for someone that put their life on the line to protect our country where everybody is free to live the way they want to live.

Yes it bothers me greatly. DR’s and nurses sure they are great, but they get paid what 3-10 times what our military folks get paid. All while doing it under good conditions with whatever tech they can get. Military folks do kill people, but not for fun and they do it for the greater good of the world or USA.

I don't understand why people want the discounts to go away. It's all about bringing in customers! Yeah it's also a 'thank you' but in most cases it's business. I'm a vet and also over 60 I don't remember ever asking for a discount (other then paying cash) but except one when offered.
