The bars are (should be) serial numbered.
A real audit would involve both making sure all the serial numbered bars are accounted for (including weights and density), as well as melting down a statistically significant representative sample of the bars and analyzing to verify their composition.

XRF only analyzes the surface. Crooks know this and have been known to plate bars of base metal, drill and fill holes to steal some gold, etc.
Standard practice is to melt the bars and test a sample from molten metal, or melting the metal, casting into bars and drilling samples for analysis.

Thank you I did not know that I thought all along it went deeper I see that even a Mass Spectrometry don't go very deep guess we are going to haft to melt it

This is getting fairly stupid now
This was sent to ICE agents, DEA, Border Patrol as well as HSI AGENTS as an example
Theses are agents WE NEED and are out hunting people on the streets
They have essentially been given till Monday to reply or be fired
This is CRAZY
A lot of these agents, many of whom put their life on the line every day are pissed off big time with this
I can understand admin/office staff getting this - but active field agents who have been literally working round the clock non stop since Jan 5th…………… sorry, this is just wrong

Eh, I've been on the receiving end of this sort of directive.
Sure, compliance is annoying.
But if you're actually a productive employee it's like 5 mins and an email.
I am sure the hard working guys are well aware of why this is necessary, and that it is a temporary measure.

I bet you that reply email will be the most productive thing half those employees did all week.
And if that's the case, their managers are the ones that should be getting fired.
Many Agents that got these emails are out in the field hunting down illegals, ISIS, gangs, drug dealers, etc……….same agents that Noem was having her hair and make up done for to have the photo op while out riding with them a few weeks back

I know for a fact what these guys are doing and how hard they are working every single day and night for 6 or 7 days per week
These guys don’t deserve to be treated like this

Clearly this should have not gone out in the manner it went out - it bypassed all of the leadership in these agencies who are now saying their employees will not respond

Either way, Still does not make it right as clearly evidenced by all the Department Heads telling their staff NOT to reply to Musk under any circumstances - this is Patel, Noem, etc
If they want this, there are clear laws around “Time in Motion Studies” (this is clearly a version of that) which need to be adhered to
With regard to the 5 or 6 bullet points that Musk asked for - no regard at all to the content, background, metrics required - so if they say ANYTHING in the 5 bullet points is that ok - or are they looking for specific buzz words, etc?
Additionally, if required, this should come from the heads of the relevant agencies who were appointed only in the last few weeks - Noem, Patel etc

You raise good points but I think you are missing the point of the whole exercise.
Yes, anyone dealing in confidential areas (FBI, DHS, etc) should be exempt for obvious reasons
Yes, it is ridiculously easy to come up with 5 bullet points if you have half a brain
The purpose of this exercise is to identify those that refuse - they will go on the chopping block by self identifying as worthless employees! It's a great first step. The ones that refuse are certain to be the ones that actively work against the trump administration over the next 4 years. Better to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

This was sent to Agents who are deemed as a National Security Key resource with zero exception - people who are currently hunting down ACTIVE terrorist threats across the US including significant threats within the NYS areas - and they need to justify their existence with 5 bullet points???
We can all disagree, but I think this is ridiculous

If one was doing their job this should not be difficult at all. I hope they release a statement on how many emails were not replied to. There has to be a sizeable percentage of Fed employees just sitting there staring at a blank email trying to decide whether to lie about what they did or just send a bunch of low level or very few accomplishments and hope for the best.

No body will be fired as a result of this. In fact, the threat of not replying being considered a resignation was not even in the actual email, it was something stupid Musk said in a post on X. Civil service is full of do nothing mother fuckers, civil service protections are the cause. The appointed people are the only ones that have to worry, they hold non competitive lines and can be fired without cause.
