Duty to harvest?

Watching TV and this topic popped in my head. I am interested in everyone's thoughts.

I hunt and grow all our food except salt.
I havent had store meat in 16 years.
If its not your thing, then buy from a store, who cares.
We do it because its fun and rewarding.
We have never felt better.
I pretty much CURED my Crohns disease and allergies by not eating processed food.

Yeah, I think it is critical to good conservation, the fact that I enjoy the hell out of it is the reason most lib's are anti hunting, they want everyone as miserable as themselves.

I think the story of whitetail deer can help answer these questions.
100 years ago they were almost extinct.
Even 50-60 years ago they were quite rare.
Through hunting and conservation they have rebounded.
Some may say the rebound was because the wolves, lions, bears and coyotes were wiped out, but, the fact is those large predators were long gone.
Hunting is now helping wolves, coyotes, lions and bears to rebound.

I think animal species would be best off if humans were extinct but being we're not then I think responsible and intelligent management is crucial. Sadly those two terms aren't often used when describing humans.

I admire you for this. I'd love to grow and raise more of my own food. It has to taste so much better. Any tips would be appreciated. Maybe even start your own thread. I'd love some simple tips and ideas. I'm limited because I don't have much land.

Its really a learn as you go thing.
When we started we had a few Angus cattle for beef and a couple Jerseys for milk. We got chickens, ducks and heritage turkeys, and hogs.
Over time we realized this wasnt working.
I did alot of research and found Dexter cattle. They are smaller animals so need less room and feed. They are great meat cows and have 5% milk fat so are great for milk and cheese. They are also very, very healthy.
Then we realized that hogs cost too much when only growing a small amount for food. So, we began raising them and making hams, bacon, fat back....and selling it at incredible profit.
We have goats for food and milk also. They are cheap to raise and easy to care for.
We found that ducks are too much trouble for the benifit they provide.
Turkeys are cheap to raise and grow really fast. We also sell those at a good profit.
Chickens are cheap and and easy.
Goats, turkey and chickens dont need alot of room and they dont wonder away.
