Ecuador: We have 'temporarily restricted' Assange's internet

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Ecuador's government acknowledged on Tuesday that it cut off WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's internet access at its embassy in London after the whistleblowing site published a trove of damaging emails from Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.


The foreign ministry said that while it stands by its 2012 decision to grant Assange asylum based on legitimate concerns he faces political persecution, it respects other nations' sovereignty and doesn't interfere or support any candidate in foreign elections.


"The decision to make this information public is the exclusive responsibility of the WikiLeaks organization," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The recognition of the reprimand comes less than 24 hours after WikiLeaks tweeted that Ecuador had cut off Assange's access to the Internet on Saturday after the publication of Clinton's speeches to Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs

In follow-up messages posted Tuesday, the group claimed U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry had personally intervened to ask Ecuador to stop Assange from publishing documents about Clinton. Citing "multiple US sources," WikiLeaks said the request was made on the sidelines of a visit by Kerry and Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa last month to Colombia to show their support for a peace deal with leftist rebels........ And by him I of course mean Hillary Clinton. We've played the "I need a safe space" game enough, it didn't work. Next step? Just lie and make things up, as well as incite violence against opposing views. Check, confirmed. Eventually the temper tantrum stops, and the grown ups get back to doing grown up things.

And if the unthinkable happens, which I personally don't see it happening, and he gets elected, people will have confirmed proof and reason to have so little faith n their government that it might not matter anyway.

What if you turn it horizontally when you want to do a smiley. I have to do that on my iPhone always, and sometimes all edits and smiles shows and sometimes not then I have to click "more options" then the whole entire edit bar shows.

Yea I recall the issue with your device. It's just weird that your screenshot is exactly what mine looks like when I'm on iPhone, til i hit more options and turn device into landscape,then voila they are all there. Definitely a bug in smaller handhelds,cause it's never an issue with iPads.

It seems that the Obama administration's efforts to save the presidential candidacy of Hillary Clinton is finally starting to yield tangible results as WikiLeaks just provided the following update that Julian Assange was cut off from using the Internet at the Ecuadorian embassy in London effective Saturday evening

Of course, this comes just a few days after the Obama administration announced overt plans to escalate a cyber war with Russia over allegations they were behind the hacking of Hillary's private email server.



Certainly, one has to wonder what this means for the future of Assange as clearly the Obama administration has applied sufficient pressure on the Ecuadorian government such that they have started to cave on their support of him. Perhaps we should be checking flight logs for mysterious planes landing in Quito with billions of Swiss Francs on board.
Or perhaps, the Ecuadorian goverment prefers to "swap gold" with Hillary's other political ally, Goldman Sachs, as Bloomberg noted they did back in 2014. Just another of the many ways that Hillary's wall street relationships have paid dividends...quid pro quo, Goldman.



Ecuador, one of only eight countries to adopt the U.S. dollar as its official currency, swapped gold with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. for liquid assets in a sign the nation is short on cash, according to Loomis Sayles & Co.



“It does raise a red flag,” Bianca Taylor, a sovereign analyst who helps oversee $210 billion at Loomis Sayles, said yesterday in a phone interview from Boston. “Whenever a country needs to sell or monetize its gold reserves, it’s definitely a signal that the sovereign is strapped for cash.”



President Rafael Correa is stepping up his search for financing at home and abroad after borrowing more than $11 billion from China since defaulting on $3.2 billion of foreign debt five years ago. Ecuador’s use of the dollar means it can’t finance deficits by printing money like other countries. Correa, a self-described revolutionary socialist, is now planning to raise about $700 million in an overseas bond sale this year and agreed to allow the International Monetary Fund to perform an economic review for the first time since 2008.

Somehow I don't think WikiLeaks needs Assage to have internet access to keep dumping the dirt. He is the founder and face of the org but I am sure he is not alone. I wonder what they are really afraid of? Maybe they believe he has some better stuff yet to come.
