I've found it increasingly difficult to avoid the topic this year. Seems as if many who normally wouldn't speak out now do, and I'm unfortunately usual stuck in the middle. Earlier this week one coworker informed me of his distaste of another coworkers political view and stated he was potentially going to try and get him fired (which unfortunately would have been a possibility).He backed down, but the firestorm just continues to forge on.

I fully agree. I just wish my other coworkers felt and did the same.

My rule of thumb is not to bring up anything political to anyone who I am not both friendly with and know their political leanings.

If others bring stuff up to me, I either ignore them or respond as appropriate, again, depending on the relationship.

I have had to have at least 1 direct conversation with a coworker explaining that I am at work to earn money for the company, and for myself and family. While I'm there, I fully expect to be engaged in conversations regarding work, and focused on the same for everyone's benefit and to insure my safety ( work with dangerous equipment). How long would you think that was effective?

1 day. Total.

Where I work everyone hates Cuomo.. and we technically work for him! (state employees) Other than that we don't talk national politics, especially since I'm a supervisor ($$$-not really), though there have been snarky comments about "Dementia Biden" etc..

Sounds like the one who needs to go is the instigator there.

He's creating a hostile work environment by threatening to get people fired over their political views.

The company is opening themselves up to lawsuits over the hostile work environment. The only reason they let it go in such a one sided manner is that conservatives don't fight back.

If HR departments started having to defend lawsuits over these hostile environments they create, the problem would end lickety split.

Ask for the foam box to keep your arm in when you sleep. It opens up and you Velcro close it with your arm bent. Makes sleeping a lot easier
