Anyone else buying this bullshit? They already have proven they cannot be trusted. They lie, cheat and steal. Yet he thinks we should pay them more. They current pay of $285k a year is in the top 5% of earners in the US. How can they be for the people when they can't understand what the people go through day to day. Their healthcare is like their current pay. They insider trade. They waste our money with fake aid for money laundering.

What I think needs to happen won't. I honestly think the country is done and will decay. It cannot be saved.

IMO they should get the pay and benefits that their constituents get. If they want a raise they need to get their constituents one and then it will be reflected in their pay and benefits. This is the only way together them to do what’s right. Their finances should be scrutinized by a special counsel at the IRS to look for fraud and if any is found they should be removed immediately without pay. If found not guilty reinstated with back pay. If found guilty punishment should be all pay returned to government that they ever received from us.

They take a friggin' oath-of-office or sign contracts for employment! If you take pride in your job that should be all that is needed. Money is a short term motivator. I see no need to pay them to alter bad behavior. The reality is if they break policies or the law, they should suffer the consequences. The true consequences like you and I would. Not the slap on the wrist BS that we seem to give the lawless in gubment.
I would give them a base compensation package based on merit, but incentivize them with extra cash for above and beyond actions like; whistle blowing for fraud and waste, saving taxpayer money through innovation, streamlining functions, etc. Also, get rid of gov. bonuses. Essentially the point we're at now is the accumulation of the last four years and the healing process will take as long or longer to return us to righteousness and economic viability. I fully expect many Republicans to be discovered having used Uncle Sam to fund their huge increases in wealth, and as far as a Pay increase goes, I'll go along with it so long as no member of Congress or their family may profit or benefit in any way, shape or form from NGO's, Boards, Foundations, et.al AND there are very specific TERM LIMITS....I haven't the answers nor expertise to "fix" the Problems DC has created, but stopping all the bullshit funding to the tune of Billions of Dollars seem a pretty good start...either that or we kill all the Bastards and start anew al la 1776.

I believe serving as a politician should be voluntary, with basic health insurance and a stipend for room and board. And it shouldn't be a full time job, just a few months twice a year to assemble and get business done. All these scumbags say they want to "serve the people"....well if that's really your altruistic motive, you'd be happy to serve without the primary goal of getting rich.

At the very most, thier pay should remain the same but their health benefits shifted to the same private insurance that we serfs have to deal with, and the government pension replaced with a 401k (maybe give them a matching option up to 5%).

I took am disappointed in some things but the sunlight given to government spending by DOGE has been a game changer. Shutting down USAID is a very big deal. Deprives the deep state of a lot of money. I am looking for arrests and prosecutions but rome wasn't built in a day.

Trump is doing exactly what he said he was going to do. Every economist on the planet said tariffs would do this. His voters decided to ignore it. Now the stock market is at 6 month lows. Unfortunately for us Canada gave him a bloody nose over tariffs earlier in the month, which is why he backed down (just as he did at the last minute with the early-February tariffs that were supposed to happen). But now everybody knows he backed down--to Trudeau, no less--and to carry on the charade as a tough guy he can't let it go, so he's threatening tariffs yet again. The market will keep reminding him.

Maybe pronouns in email signatures weren't such a bad thing after all.

I have my own ideas on what changes need to be made to our Constitutional Republic.

For starters, all representatives must have 20 years experience in the work force or business owner. They must have participated in retirement planning, saving and investing, saving/paying for college, paying a mortgage and preferable have raised a family whose futures depends on a stable well run govt.
This would ensure broke ass people and the wealthy, both seeking to capitalize on the system, is kept to a minimum. The middle class should be the focus for Washington.
Two terms and you're gone. Not two terms in the House, or in the Senate. Two terms and you are no longer welcome in Washington. We have 330 million people run by 435 idiots. We have a very large pool to draw from. Over 160 million working now.


As for 175k or the 220k for representatives. I think it should be based on cost of living in your district at home. Not less than what it is now.
Any trips to Washington where accommodations are need can be paid for by the govt and maybe a military hotel set up in DC for those accommodations. Fully secured and bug free. You don't need a private residence there. Not in 2025.

K st should be demolished. We need real campaign finance reform. One billion spent on a 400k job is ridiculous.

There is a danger to making the pay of elected officials too low, and that is the risk of excluding the middle class from being able to afford to run for office. DC is absurdly expensive. If we capped their pay to, say, the average of their constituents, then only the wealthy would be able to afford to hold elected office.
