The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a rule Tuesday that will impose stricter nitrogen dioxide emissions standards on new heavy-duty trucks, a move that will substantially hike operating costs for truckers, experts and industry representatives told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The EPA’s rule, which is more than 80% stricter than the previous regulation, will require large trucks, delivery vans and buses manufactured after 2027 to cut nitrogen dioxide emissions by nearly 50% by 2045, according to an agency press release. The agency’s rule is intended to push truckers to phase out diesel-powered vehicles and use electric vehicles (EV) instead; however, the compliance costs associated with such rules could suffocate an industry that is not ready to transition to EVs, experts told the DCNF.

This actually starts to take effect on 2028 model trucks. One of my coworkers was in a meeting with the EPA and CARB and was informed of the new regulations. The exhaust aftertreatment systems at that point will need to be equivalent of 3 systems using current technology to meet the standards.
Originally the EPA had planned to roll this out in 2030 but CARB has pushed for the earlier date. This is why almost all OEM's are in the process of developing alternative power sources.

I’ve read a few articles from individuals that were very pro ev and pro electric in general but that were still realistic and grounded in their views. They love ev’s and think they are the future but are not the today. All of them said 2 things-the infrastructure will not currently support ev’s and other electric tech and the ev’s of the future will not be the ev’s we are seeing produced now.
