Erie County wait time question

Hey all -

Someone I know made it a point to take their class, submit their permit, and submit it prior to the new goofy CCIA crap going into effect. The folks at the permit office noted any submitted i think by approximately august 12 (which this persons was) would be processed under the old rules. To date, no reference calls have been made, etc. Curious if anyone knows timelines as it's going on 6 or 7 months at this point.

A friend turned his app in around April or May of 2022 and his just recently went to a judge.

A small factor will be your town Police. The investigators in Orchard Park, West Seneca and Amherst drag their asses. The investigators in Elma, Marilla, Alden are the Erie County Sheriff's office and they move the process right along.

As mentioned, sadly it varies from town to town.

Best case scenario you're looking at 6 months.
Worst case over a year.

I had mine a hair under a year (Erie) and thought I was lucky. Shortly before the covid panic I heard it was down to 9 months but I'm sure it's back up again

Thanks - sounds like they're still processing backlog then? I know a ton of people applied prior to CCIA going into efffect. Wasn't sure if the hold up was navigating the new BS, or simply influx of applications. Sounds like the latter.

Be careful to NOT call and inquire! I did back in the Will Fowler days at the Erie County PPO, and they went so far as to write my local PD (Orchard Park), and tell them to do an "extra thorough" investigation of me, because, they said "That I must be looking for my permit to go kill someone...". Seriously! And they did a lot of investigating too! Although I still got my Unrestricted CCW, and as of about 10 years later, I STILL haven't threatened, shot, or killed ANYONE!

It has gotten better under the new management (EC Clerk Mickey Kearns, and Alan Brown in the PPO office), but who knows how long it will take with the current mess because of the Unconstitutional CCIA.

I know two people that submitted there’s a long time ago and they have heard nothing. No references called and no movement. I had them sign up for the tracking on the Erie county website and they have no notifications on any movement. I want to say it was May or June and nothing.
