Do you all bother with an extra mag when you carry? I've just been carrying 17+1. I can't imagine needing more than that, but then in the back of my mind I worry about a worse case situation. What do you all do?

I know it's a good idea to carry an extra, but most of the time I don't.
It's almost or more important in case of malfunction as it is for extra shots.

My EDC has changed to a six shot 38/357 2” revolver. The load is 2-.38, 2-.38+p, 2-.357mag. Real good shooting gun I regularly ring 6” steel at 15-20yds.
I think of my load as very much defensive. It should create distance between me and the bad guys.
Wouldn’t want to be down range when the little devil barks out a couple of .357’s.

Always 2 extra mags. For the .380 that gives me 18 and for the 9 mil that gives me 30.
I carry 6 spare mags no matter the capacity.

I always carry one spare. Wife does the same when she carries.
It's not about the capacity, it's about having a spare mag.
So I carry one spare with the LCP (6+6+1), if I carried a full size glock I'd do the same, even though that's way more ammo (17+17+1).
It's more about malfunction clearing than ammo capacity.

I actually keep a spare with my PS90 that's the "bump in the night gun". It's not because I think the factory 50 rounds won't be enough LOL.

With an autoloader I always carry an extra mag. Not only just in case you need a reload, but also in case something wild were to happen to the mag – like in all my pants-pooping stress I were to drop my mag while fumbling for the gun or if I hit the deck with the pistol in hand, the baseplate hits the ground and the spring comes flying out the bottom. Weird shit can happen when stress and adrenaline are sky-high and your luck is at rock bottom.
When it comes to revolvers, I don't carry a reload with my .38. If I run dry with 5 shots at bad breath range and the problem isn't over, my number is just up. Hopefully the guy that takes me out doesn't make it either. I will sometimes carry a reload with my .44. I don't expect to reload it quick, but I don't expect to do anything quick with it. My shots will be slow, hit hard, and while I do practice reloading it, it won't be as fast as an autoloader. Either way, I only carry it when I want power and longer-range in a handgun like while hunting or hiking.

Carry as much as you can, dressed to suit! Minimum 2 reloads, winter with more cover and depending upon situation maybe 3... Being cocky and thinking you don't need it defeats the very purpose of why you're carrying in the first place! Gangbangers and their 30 round mags with Glock Switches will certainly make your paltry 10 rounder seem like you're carrying a stick! Be smart

In my area I barely carry, well I barely carry a gun. Always a couple knives. Now when I drive past the city I have 2 extra mags in my car door. Now if I have to go into the city I’ll have 2 extra mags on my belt and the 2 in my car door.

Mine is actually a 19 size, but the 17 mag sticking out a little more doesn't bother me.
Do you guys have any recommendations on a mag holder for a belt?

More so in this day and age, unfortunately...
Generally I've carried a holster on one side and a double mag carrier on the other side for about as long as I've carried.. which is a long time. Theres always one extra in the carrier (as @Celt said, not only for capacity, but also possible malfunction) , and sometimes whether there is a second extra depends on exactly where I'm going. I mostly carry a relatively tiny and low-capacity gun these days, but that too might vary based on where I might be passing through.

When I carry my G26 OWB I use a G19 mag with a spacer. I use the flush mag IWB.
The spacer makes a huge difference if you haven't tried it.
Makes the G26 feel like a G19 in the hand.
I'll add a pick of the difference when I get home.
I usually wear cargo pants. Spare mag goes in a dedicated pocket, unless I'm doing some class or something. I try to keep from having too much stuff on my belt.
No real recommendations about mag holders. I have a few, they all seem to work OK.

They're coming for sure, but realistically they're cleanup, not help.
I can't imagine any situation where you need to use your carry gun lasting long enough for help to arrive before it's all over, even if you're getting mugged in the alley behind the police station.
People say you may not have time to chamber a round if you carry without one in the pipe.
Imagine waiting for 911. It'll all be over before the phone even rings.
This all depends on where I am going and what I am doing.
Back in the Buffalo area, I always carried at least one extra mag. Now that I am down in Mayberry land, not so much.

My paranoid side would like to have 3 15 or 17 round mags and a small back up gun.
Plus I always have a 3.5-4" knife.

Okay guys, when the Christmas money comes in I'll grab 2 extra 15 or 17 round glock mags. Thank you for the input.
Always have a good knife as well. Life is so much different down here. Granted, nearly all carry a gun. Tons of people open carrying here.

Outside New Yorkistan, I carry what I feel like depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going. Always 1 in the pipe!
My normal EDC is a Shield .45, and two spare extended mags, and a 4" CRKT knife. For long driving trips back into NY, I go with two Shield 9's in a dual shoulder holster, and two spare extended mags. And sometimes I bring along the Shield .45 as well, as they are all 3 on my NY permit.
I've been trying out carrying Glock 19 / P80's with Glock 17 mags, but not totally successful conceal carrying them so far. Wardrobe upgrade likely required...
If very difficult to conceal (like at a wedding), at a minimum, I carry an NAA Guardian with an extended mag for 10+1.

I have a NERD owb and a kydex iwb. Both are custom fit. I wanted something that fit correctly and had adjustable retention.

Always a mag or speed strip depending on what I am carrying.
Had to look that one up.
A few years ago, I got the Alien Gear Core pack, I thought, what the hell.
I like it, all the different combinations is interesting. I just received the shell for the VP9sk that I bought.
I ordered a leather holster for that one as well.
I am a big fan of the Bladetech as well. Custom fit for all guns.
