Fabric / Brand recommendation

after yesterday's mis adventures, my clothes were so noisy, that it spooked dear instantly (it will take a while for me to get over the missed buck, i hate failures)

any brand/fabric/camo recommendations, that can help stay stealthy, warm, dry, invisible.

I've been having good success with Duluth. Not all of their shit is good, but their firehose jackets are solid. Mine is warm as hell. Pricey, but they run a lot of sales like Merrell. The material is well broken in to begin with, and doesn't make a ton of noise. Men's Superior Fire Hose Jacket

Also a fan of their ballroom (extra room for your balls, when crouching) jeans. Nice assortment of useful pockets, and the pockets are lined with canvas inside to reinforce them, and the bottom of the leg cuff to prevent fraying. Not particularly noisy, either. Men's Ballroom Double Flex Standard Fit Jeans

Also the inside pocket on the firehose jacket is big. I think big enough to accommodate a giant size peacock petrol warmer even. It seems to take the standard size petrol ones fine. Since you're asking about a hunting jacket.

Good point. They do have firehose camo I think in a different style, for pants. I was eyeing them, but I wanted something that looks less weird for every day. Men's DuluthFlex Fire Hose Fleece-Lined Camo Pants

Honestly Duluth seems normal sized to me, if not slightly big. Not necessarily for big guys. I went by the measurements they provided, and the jacket fit me perfectly. In most brands I'm about a large size jacket or shirt. I'm a medium in Duluth, but they give you a measurements chart so you know where you stand.

So, they pick out blue, but not blaze orange? Conventional wisdom is that deer are color blind.As far as noisy clothes spooking deer,I have found more often a bit of noise will make them alert and curious but not necessarilly spook them into a panicked run.They often will get curious about a noise and look in that direction and not run off if you stop moving.Never been a stand hunter,always on the move.I have found more often if you are trying to be sneaky they are more prone to run off, just walking along fairly normally will usually make them curious.Just tonite, I was walking my dogs along a farm field down the road,field is clear for about 300yds and then is wooded back about 500 yds.My friend Nick was in a stand back in the middle of the wooded area.There were 2 doe grazing about 100 yds from me as I approached.I got about 50 yds from them when they noticed me, they watched but didnt run off.I got within about 30 or so yds when a shot went off from my friend Nick,he got a nice 6 pointer, by the way.They turned towards the sound of the shot,looked back at me and slowly walked in the direction of the shot, into some tallish brush.I'm pretty sure they werent concerned about my blue jeans, or my hounds.You lost the track of a nice deer,shake it off,it happens.Had nothing to do with noisy clothes just a less than ideal shot placement.Dont over think things.

If you can afford it, Sitka makes some of the most awesome hunting gear in the world. But it aint cheap !


I have a bunch of McKenzy Mountain Extreme clothing from Midway that is excellent. Quiet, rain and wind proof and extra warm. The stuff I have is for mid-winter hunts. Snow-camo. The pattern disappears easily in snow. It is a bit bulky, but late season clothing is always going to be that way. I would definately not hesitate to buy more of it.

You can never go wrong with wool. There is nothing quieter and It will keep you warn even when wet.

The absolute warmest article of clothing I've ever worn is an electrically heated vest from a company called Ororo. My son bought it for me a couple years ago.I've only used the battery once or twice when the temps were below zero while walking the dogs.After 10 mins I had to turn it off.Even without the power it is the warmest vest I have.I've got goose down and a Carhardt vest and this beats them hands down.

woah, i just looked at that brand, they make heated socks, my feet get so cold, i usually double up on my socks plus feet warmers. i feel like an elephant walking in the forest. they look like good purchase for socks. thanks for the recommendation

For socks, as S&W Fan says, wool is the way to go.And good boots, of course, something with thinsulate insulation.Most of the winter when walking my hounds I get away with a thermal and a woolrich shirt with that vest down to around 25 degs or so, no overcoat.

So I just had a great experience with Duluth. I had a few pairs of jeans unopened that I got on a big sale they had. I lost even more weight, and I could go down a size. I asked if I can exchange for a size down, as long as they're in the bag with tags -- no problems. Free exchange, and I bought them in November.
