I knew a guy that built a high rise stand out of 2x4's. He shot a deer and got so excited he walked of the stand and broke his pelvis. Another one fell or slipped while exiting and landed on his pistol. He didn't make it. Tree stands probably kill and injure more hunters than any other cause.

A man down the road from me was killed in a very high, tree stand falling accident a decade ago...bow hunting.
I have hunted from good solid stands....getting up and down can be fatal.
Can't beat a blind in that regard.
Blinds work well in African hunting.

I've hunted in 20+ mph winds and that is some scary sh!t. Even a stout tree sways toward the top.

I’ve done a bit of tree surfing myself over the years, not intentionally mind you . Most times it’s gotten windy well after I’ve climbed up into my stand. I’ve got to say, I’m not a fan.

Two out of the three stands that I have up are in need of some minor repairs that I should have gotten to much earlier in the year, so I’m doing most of my hunting out of a ground blind this year.
Some things I know for a fact....
This was NOT a hunting accident, he did not fall out of the stand, he did not fall climbing up, or climbing down.
This had nothing to do with this death.
