I don't see why this matters. So he wrote some memos. Big deal. He is a proven liar. Why would anyone believe his written lies?

It matters because McCabe has been using up leave time in anticipation of retiring. If he kept these memos in his sock drawer or on his gmail account, he was likely mishandling classified information. That's still on the books as a crime, whether or not Sessions has the nuts to prosecute any one for it.
