I'm going to be taking the Bridgeport to Port Jefferson ferry soon. Anyone know if they use metal detectors or search your car? I see the website says that cars are subject to search. Anyone ever have this happen?

I've taken the port Jeff ferry a few times. There are no metal detectors. And I have never seen anyone get their car or person searched. You drive on and you can either sit in your car or get out & walk about on the ferry. They also have a food court upstairs.
I wouldn't have anything laying around in the car where others can look in & see it.

No mental detectors you just walk on never saw a sign about carrying on board either. I'm on it once a month atleast.
PS there a shuttle to and from Bass Pro Shops too.
makOO and zzrguy, thank you very much. This is the information I was looking for. I wasn't looking forward to driving 250 miles to the ferry to be turned away, and forfeit my $140 round trip fare and hotel reservations. I also wasn't looking forward to venturing deep into MS13 territory not properly equipped.

If you do have a problem, there is a new ffl in Port Jeff that is a good guy. You could probably store your gun with him rather than forfeit your ferry trip.

On the Lake Champlain ferries I've had my car searched at least twice. They usually open the trunk and look around. They were looking for bombs, not firearms. It was supposedly random. I try to avoid ferries, mainly based on the principle that I don't like my stuff searched.

Danfords Hotel in Port Jefferson, and visiting wife's brother in E. Northport.
I live 5min from Port Jeff there's a smoke house on main street that pretty good. About a 2min walk from danfords.

I'm 5 minutes from this place and I've never heard about it, God damn I gotta get out more.
We've probably met on one of the island site or in one of the LGS.
Made the trip, fully equipped, no hassle. Didn't have a chance to try the smoke house. Maybe next time. All MS13 wisely kept their distance.

It was a nice ride. On the drive to the ferry from Syracuse, it rained most of the way, but by the time we got to the ferry dock the rain had stopped and the sun was out.
