FFL benefits question

So can anyone out there tell me... If I apply for and get an ffl, can I now buy a pistol and shoot it right away. In other words, can I circumvent the 4+ week wait time to have the pistol added to my permit before I can take possession in Orange county, ny? Giving it serious consideration because I hate wait!

Thats a good question I would think that your FFL and Pistol License are two separate entities.

But i don't know.

Why can't you take it home from the store like 90% of the rest of the country?

You would need to have a NYS Dealers License in addition to an FFL. When you receive the pistol from the seller you enter it into your bound book and notify the NYSP with a form that I am unable to remember the # of at the moment... When you sell or put it on your permit as the Dealer License holder you again notify the NYSP. This shows you transferred ownership and possession to the new owner. Now there is a paper trail associated with that pistol.

As the NYS dealer license holder you can possess this pistol at the place you conduct business. You cannot legally take it outside of that domain.

Who says you cant take it out? Please provide dics to substantiate this. I have never heard/read that. At this time i thing you aroe mistaken. But i will pull my "nys book".

To the op. It takes 3-8 months to get he dealer license that allows you to posses pistols. Total bs. You basically cant sell pistols during your wait. Total bs.
