FFL ( process when purchasing a new firearm in Putnam co.)

Could someone tell me what is the process when purchasing a new firearm in Putnam co. This is how my FFL guy does it .He gets the firearm delivered to his place of business . Then I wait for him to write me a receipt to take to the county clerk office . Then i wait again for the coupon which takes about 4 to 5 weeks .Then I have to wait until he's says it's ok to come over to do a background check All this takes about 3 to 3 1/2 months . Just curious does this sound right ?

I'm in Ulster County and this is how my new pistol purchase went. The dealer gave me a receipt with the make. model and serial number of the pistol on it. I took the receipt to the Ulster County Sheriff and filled out the form to add the firearm to my permit. They charged me $5.00. Then it took 3 weeks to get the coupon from the judge so I could pick up the pistol. I went back to the gun store with the coupon and picked up my pistol.

Who are you using for an FFL? I never had a wait that long.

Seems a bit long to me as well. The FFL shouldn’t be more than a few days after you get the approval from the permit office.

That's pretty much the process in Putnam ... BUT your FFL is much too slow on you coming over. I used Paladin Center for transfers a few times. They were reasonably priced and easy to work with (at least back then).

Find another FFL

I`d say find another FFL, but if you do that, you`ll have to pay that FFL you have right now, to send it to another FFL to your liking. That`s just going to piss off the FFL where the gun is at right now. Might better just suck it up, and next time do your business elsewhere.

Warren County: buy gun, take receipt to County Clerk’s office. 3 or fewer guns can be done on a walk-in basis, no appt needed. Give receipt to very friendly people at the counter, $3 per gun, wait about 4 minutes while they add it to my permit and print my updated card, receive pickup voucher with a county embossed stamp, go back to gun shop as soon as possible, do BGC, walk out with shiny new hardware.

Niagara county. Purchase firearm. Take receipt to the pistol permit office. Add the pistol and leave with the coupon in about 10 minutes.

Last i knew on Livco ..

get coupon from PP Dept .. store it in wallet .,.

find gun at FFL / Gun Show .. use coupon and buy and take home ..

return to Livco PP dept with in like 10 days to add to permit ..

my dad would have like 3 coupons in his wallet all the time
