I haven't bought a pistol in a couple years now but found a custom pistol online for a good deal, something none of my local dealers could get. I make the deal with the gun owner, sent the money and he takes it to his FFL to ship. In the meantime I call my FFL and make sure he will accept the transfer at which time he emails me his FFL license to send to the seller's FFL. I send the FFL license to his dealer who refuses to accept the copy of the license from me. This is a first for me, I have sent my FFL's license to dealers and other FFL's without a problem many times. The sellers FFL said that the copy of the license has to come to him directly from my FFL and not through me. In the past I have had a receiving FFL demand that the license was faxed to them but had no problem with me faxing it. I forwarded the email directly from my FFL and he can see in the email string that my FFL sent me the copy of the license. Is this FFL being a little unreasonable or is this common?

Having a FFL is not exactly an easy thing: there are numerous rules, regulations, admonishments and the ever present threat that some agent with BATFE gets a hard on for you and your Business, we won't even touch on the bullshit from the State, and frankly MANY are too stupid or lazy to actually LEARN the Rules and not go off what they think or someone else said was the way it has to be done.
The other dealer is wrong, but it's his Licenses and policy (policy is not Law, but many treat it as such).
Ask the other Dealer for his e-mail address and ask your Dealer to e-mail him a copy and be done with it.
FFL's are easily validated by the FFL e-z check system, as there ARE people that will modify a legitimate FFL with a new address. hence the FFL's policy.
I've literally bought and sold hundreds of handguns over the last 40 years and I swear no two deals go the same way.
One thing I always encourage BEFORE finalizing a deal is for BOTH Parties to make contact with both Dealers to go over their requirements and Fees before going any farther, anyone pushing "you've got to take it and pay me now..." is a red flag that you're foolish to ignore.

I think this FFL just doesn't like dealing with NY and this is his way to stick it to us. I have asked my FFL to email him his copy and I am sure he will. The part that kills me is this is just holding up the transaction, I sent his FFL the info Monday and I am just hearing back today that he won't accept it. Honestly I think this will be my last time buying a used firearm, the headaches just aren't worth it.

Some FFL dealers are just overly cautious these days, and rightly so I guess . I just recently had this happen as well. I asked for the other FFL’s phone number so that I could talk to him directly and after a few minutes of conversation all was well and the transfer and sale was completed. Most things can be settled with a good conversation when talking to like minded 2A enthusiasts.
