Maybe but it depends on What guns people are buying and want. My dad for years was against AR’s in civilian hands until you were going to have to be permitted to have one here in NYS. He then jumped to buy one and loves it.

This is worse than a sienna poll. Its completely made up numbers with zero basis for fact.

A survey is sent to NSSF dealers with the following questions
"In your opinion, what percent of your customers in the first four months were first-time gun buyers?"
"What kind of firearms did first time buyers purchase?"
"In your opinion, what percent of all the first-time gun buyers were female?"
"What percent of the first-time gun buyers had already taken some form of firearm safety training course?"
"What percent of first-time gun buyers asked for information about taking a firearm safety training course?"

So, All of these numbers are completely made up.
The survey has to be competed by a NSSF dealer only, other dealers are not asked to participate.. What percentage of shops are NSSF members? Is there equal representation in all states and rural and urban areas for NSSF shops? What percentage of shops even completed a survey, and how many surveys in total were even completed? All the numbers generated are based on feeling and opinion based on trends of the last 4 months. Who thought this was a good metric to use?

Well that was a guess at the number back in June 2024. Since then we have had 3 assassination attempts on a presidential candidate, one coup'etat of a sitting president and one un-elected installed candidate in a process that was anything but democratic. I'd say it's higher now. :beer: :flag:

I'm not a smart man, but I can figure out a few things from questions and life experience: Just how are they able to make determinations as to who's a "new" owner? Are NICS checks cross-referencing a file of people that previously had a check run? Did someone pose a question on a form? perhaps ask the buyer and report it?
I'm not going to say there hasn't been a significant number of people new to gun ownership, but the statistics cited are questionable...
download the chart from NICS and remember those are just dealer transfers.
