Marine Cpl
.577 Tyrannosaur.
I looked into the Chiappa. Based on online reviews regarding reliability, I would pass. Plus the barrel is 19 inches long. With that long of a barrel, it actually starts slowing the 9mm down.
I went the AR 9mm route previously. Here are the negatives. NYS compliancy. You would either have to run a Thordsen stock, that spur grip that doesn’t let you hold it properly, or fix the magazine which is not ideal and even harder to load with a pistol round compared to a rifle round. The Thordsen is the best compliance of all three. Another negative of the 9mm in the AR platform is the recoil impulse. That heavy 9mm bolt smacking the buffer tube actually makes it feel like it has more recoil than a .223. I eventually sold it. I got tired of looking at the Thordsen stock. It was a constant reminder of these laws.
The Ruger. I got that to replace my AR9.
Pros...
It isn’t perfect, but it’s the best NYS legal alternative we have. The recoil impulse is much less than my AR9 that I sold. It’s accurate and reliable. There are a lot of aftermarket parts for it now. You can put red dots on it or a scope. You can even change the iron sights on it if you get the model with the upgraded handguard.
Cons...
It requires tools to disassemble. The weight could be a little lighter but it’s manageable. My AR9 was about 6 1/2 pounds. The Ruger is 7 pounds.
Regarding the weight, it is what it is unless you move to a free state and build an AR9 pistol with a short barrel.
