First rifle

What’s up everyone hope all is well. I bought my first rifle yesterday it’s a Ruger PC Carbine. I shot it and its shoots great I like the feel of it. Would you consider this a good first rifle for the range/home defense? I need opinions guys lol have a great day everyone!

Ruger PC9 was a good choice, there is also a law (JK) that everyone has a Ruger 10/22 for cheaper trigger time. Have Safe/Fun with your choice!

I have the PC and shoot it more than the 22s lately. I was going to get one in 40 but then the semi auto nonsense came into law.

They are well regarded. If using it for home defense get some hollow points and run some through it to make sure it feeds and cycles them. Make sure it can take +P if you’re considering using them. Clean the rifle really well before doing this test since HP are more costly.

I love my Ruger PC9. It’s a great gun, tons of aftermarket hop-up parts available.

Yes there are far worse choices for 1st gun. This is a good place to start. I'm sure loaded with hollow points it's fine for home defense. Not sure which style you got but if it's intended usage is home defense GET A LIGHT! the majority of break-ins or scenarios where you would need home defense are likely to happen in the dark and being able to identify your target and what's behind it is critical.

Next get a pistol to share ammo compatibility

And then get an AR or at least start with 1.

Having a pistol, pc9 and AR is great start. As stated above can't go wrong with a .22 either 10/22 are most popular but get whatever floats your boat. These 4 guns will cover most basic scenarios you encounter while giving you a lot of fun and enjoyment from there you can branch off in different directions.

Ruger PC Carbine is not a bad choice for a first rifle at all.

For mounting a light, you can use the mount on the gun but some lights interfere a little. You can get Mlok mounts that will move the light to the side of the rifle. I have the Catalyst Arms Hardpoint for the front and then I mounted a QD socket on one of the stock spacers.

I use mine for HD and also for matches. If you can find a USPSA match or a Rifle or 3gun match that has a PCC division you can use it and test your skills. I've used mine in rifle matches with the only other current mods being a 3D printed magwell and a red dot. The only portion which the rifle holds me back is the 100 yard stage and that is mainly due to the less-audible hits compared to the 223 rifles.

I do use blue loctite on the screw for the front handguard or else it loosens up by the end of a match.
