Well there was gun control as in places you couldn't carry, or you couldn't carry concealed, but I don't know of groups of people being excluded from owning a gun. I'm not a historical scholar either, so maybe.

It's funny when you think of it that way. They used to not want people to conceal their firearms. If you were going to carry you were to carry openly so everyone knew it. Concealed carry was more "dangerous".

There won't be some big "awakening" with these people. The way they think is they've got their gun now so it doesn't matter. They still don't want other people to just be able to go buy a gun, for safety's sake!

Now they believe in their 2A rights. Do they believe in yours? Just more fudds added to the fuddpile.

For all those who oppose gun control as a whole should sue AFTER the pandemic is over IMO because last I check I woke up in America and not Russia or China. If the gun community want change WE as a whole have to become the change, for example here in NY every NYS gun shops, every gun supporter, NYS 2A lawyers if there are any, any NYS gun club/group/association have to file one large class action suit against the safe act. When ANTI gun supporters rally up and demand action, they get results we have to do the same. Get representatives to represent what we stand for. Those anti guns supporters who are switching sides could be viewed in a negative way but they are here now. Hypothetically if every firearm in America were to magically disappear would crime still exists? Fuck yeah we know that but we have to make sure others understand that also and if they don’t fuck it it’s their lost but as long as we stand up for what we believe in and have people represents us gun owners then I think we have a pretty good shot.

I just purchased my first gun in April ( Remington 870 ). I have always supported the right to own guns though, I just never felt the push to buy one. Probably because I live in a major suburban area where the only place to shoot is some basement range. Legally, I can not even discharge my pellet gun on my property if I see a rat or other small pest. Because if this, I largely ignored the politics ( aside from generally voting for politicians that support these rights ) around gun control since I wasn't active in the gun owners community, though I was always aware of it. Now that I have made my first purchase, been to a range and experienced the fun that can be had with firearms - I am hooked. As such, I have been spending a lot of time digging into some of the politics around gun control and it is scary how far the liberal left has come in the last 15 years to getting what they want.

So.. I don't owe anyone an apology but I do feel that my silence on the issues needs to be somehow accounted for in my social circle. I've been talking about the damage done and trying to engage friends on the conversation. I joined the NYSFirearms Association as they sounded like the most active in fighting Cuomo and his agenda to take away rights given by the constitution. I've fired off some emails ( not the form letters ) to representatives in my area asking their positions and telling them they don't have my vote if they are for gun control. It does feel like the liberal gun haters have a perfect storm brewing to get what they have been working for and that really makes me feel like I deserve a kick in the balls for not being more involved over the last 35yrs that I could have been a gun owner. But I am in now and in full support mode... I just hope I haven't joined too late because I have a habit of that.

My personal story is similar.

I grew up in a house without guns. Was never really exposed to them while growing up. I was never anti gun I just didn't really care one way or the other because it didn't affect me but I guess I was on the right to own guns side since it was part of our constitution and didn't see why people shouldn't be able to have them.


Well, Along came the unsafe act and that is what did it for me. I was shock over what happened with the safe act. It really freaked me out what the Democrats and many RINOs did. I saw a massive over reach and infringement and that's when I started to get political and into guns. The one quote that constantly sticks with me is (I'm paraphrasing from memory) the government would only take your guns if they are intended on doing something of which you would shoot them for.


For many who grew up around guns they will not know any different. But for those of us who made the consious decision to be a gun owner we all had a different awakening moment. It doesn't matter when it happens, so much as that it does.
