"The Broward County School board teamed up with a group of community partners this month to sign a collaborative agreement on school discipline. The agreement, first of its kind, establishes new guidelines for handling non-violent misdemeanor offenses on school campuses, outlining when law enforcement is necessary and when problems can be handled through school resources.

Representatives from the Broward County-Fort Lauderdale NAACP, Juvenile Judicial Circuit, Public Defender’s office and County Sheriff’s office, among others, signed the agreement with school board members in Fort Lauderdale.

Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie says the new procedures are a common-sense approach that will give students the benefit of the doubt….."


He was suspended for bringing knives on campus but the school district never reported it. That would have been a felony if reported which would have prevented him from buying a gun legally. So, it appears that current laws would have prevented this murderer from purchasing a firearm legally if the school district would have done it's job and allowed the police to do their job. The FBI dropping the ball as well as the school district are culpable here folks. But, let's overlook these FACTS and make more gun laws. This needs to be screamed from the fucking rooftops. Everyone on here needs to flood social media with this.

Maybe but if there is a law making it illegal then he should have been reported. Plus supposedly he had attacked a boyfriend of an ex-girlfriend with a knife as well as killed and cut up small animals. This wasn't just a regular dude with a pocket knife.

I think our collective point was that it’s the person and not the object. We all might be a little on edge with so many blaming the guns for everything.

Of course it is the person. I was merely pointing out that the liberal school system/board had a history with this guy. Whether you agree with it or not, this is the statute:
790.115 Possessing or discharging weapons or firearms at a school-sponsored event or on school property prohibited; penalties; exceptions.—
(1) A person who exhibits any sword, sword cane, firearm, electric weapon or device, destructive device, or other weapon as defined in s. 790.001(13), including a razor blade, box cutter, or common pocketknife, except as authorized in support of school-sanctioned activities, in the presence of one or more persons in a rude, careless, angry, or threatening manner and not in lawful self-defense, at a school-sponsored event or on the grounds or facilities of any school, school bus, or school bus stop, or within 1,000 feet of the real property that comprises a public or private elementary school, middle school, or secondary school, during school hours or during the time of a sanctioned school activity, commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084……

This isn't a debate whether having a knife in your pocket at school means you are going to shoot up a school. I am merely pointing out that he did in fact violate that law but "the Broward County School district had decided that reducing the number of arrests on their campuses was a priority. The best way to reduce the number of arrests is by never reporting crimes that occur on school property in the first place." I am pointing this out as further proof that the current gun laws would have sufficiently done their job to prevent him buying a gun legally and that more laws aren't needed with everything here taken into consideration.

Seems like they're always being REactive rather than PROactive. Any organization is only as good as the laziest individual in it. This individual repeatedly exhibited violent behavior including making violent threats. He fell threw the cracks anyway, because no one wanted to be bothered following up. That would have saved many lives, a lot of taxpayer dollars, and spared firearms and their owners yet another round of bad public relations. Gross incompetence and apathy seems to be the recurring theme here. Sadly a glaring example of 'not my problem, and do my best to make it someone else's problem". Beyond disgusting.

Edit: the whole premise of "ban guns" is it is the easiest, cheapest, and laziest 'solution' to the problem of violence involving firearms.

Schools never report things to police. They are so anti police it’s not even funny.
My son had a teacher that was a long term sub that was not teaching kids, if kids asked for help she would send them to in school, she was swearing at them, she slammed a files fingers in her chrome book, and threw a packet of papers in her face. She had some small paper cuts and marks on her face. The school was going to do nothing. My son told me and he’s in that class so I spoke to my dad. He went in there and said what are you doing. The principal basically said well we can’t prove any of these allegations. Mind you she’s a sub and can be fired any moment. My dad said you do nothing I’ll arrest her. In less than one hour she was fired and I had a personal phone call from the principal letting us know she was termed. We got the call not because my dad, but because we complained to the school.

If a crime is commited, call the cops.
The same thing with colleges.
Violent rape is not reported in most cases on college campuses.
The schools do as little as possible and hide facts so the school doesnt get bad press.
Not reporting a crime which involves others children should be a crime.
If every single parent of a kid at that school doesnt sue the school, then they are insane.
Bringing a knife to school is a crime.
This kid did the crime, but was not held accountable.
