Lots of carbon used in making the fertilizer, tilling the ground, weed sprays, trucking bees around for pollination, trucking the tractor to pick the produce, cooling it, washing it, packing it, then driving fast to get it to the distributor before it goes to crap and then into the stores. You’d be surprised how much produce grown get out in the trash or left in the field. I’ll bet if you look at it per pound of produce consumed there’s probably more greenhouse gas from that. Yes I know cows eat produce grown but we could let them graze on grass and they would fart less and be way less inputs and less carbon. Makes no sense to grow grains, harvest them, dry them, then truck them to the cows when they can easy grain and grass planted where they are.
