Hey everyone! Glad to have found this forum, seems like a decent little corner of the internet. I'm a hands on, mechanically minded guy and a born dissenter (thanks mom lol) so I think I'll fit right in here.
I'm fairly new to gun ownership and looking to make the most of it in this wretched state... until I can eventually escape to the Smokey Mtns...

Blessed to have gotten enough acreage in Wyco that I'm planning a modest home range. Did a quick search but doesn't seem like any threads on that topic but feel to LMK if I missed something. Just have a measured 25 yd lane for target practice and sighting right now but planning on at least a 100 yd lane and then a short distance range with a bunch of targets for training/pistol/fun.

Just got my hunting license but not sure if I'll pursue that yet, or at least this season. My lady (and some groundhogs) kind of got me going down that road but then she bailed lol

Recently picked up our pistol permit applications but that was right before the latest court developments so not sure if that'll help or not. I haven't booked our 16 hr course yet but thinking about going to The Firing Pin. Any suggestions on any part of that process is welcome!

I'm also looking for local rod and gun/shooting clubs to get involved with and decent shop/FFL recommendations if anyone has any. So far I've mostly dealt with Sugarbush in Attica and they suck.

Welcome aboard..... I have ancestors, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins buried near Silver Springs, love that area! Many came when it was still part of Genesee County many many moons ago.

Good for you! I have a place in Wyoming, we'll have to hook up sometime. If you didn't know, Wyoming county is the only 2a sanctuary county in the state. They don't think much of the city's liberal politics lol.

That would be cool... Btw is that gas lamp pizza place any good? Coming from Bflo, the lack of great pizza around here has been one of the tougher transitions lol

And yeah, Wyco definitely seems nice and conservative compared to the dumpster fire that is Erie co!

I don't get out and about there too much, I don't live there. I have a cabin and pretty much just hang around my area.

Well you'll be in good company here as a significant portion of members are actively plotting to leave the state. Many to TN....

If you're stuck in NY Wyoming county is about a good of a place as you can get. If I was going to stay in NY I would seriously consider moving there but the next move I make will be to evacuate this state.


Weird you had such bad luck with sugarbush. I have been there before and had a good experience. It's a little far to go to for me but I wanted to check them out.

Welcome. I love Wyoming county and if they jack up my assessment high enough maybe I’ll come join you.
As for us guys here we’re alright. Lots of good information here. As for an FFL I have a good one but he’s back in Buffalo. The 16/hour course thing I’m not sure anyone here has gone through it yet. Let us know and keep us posted on that process. Good luck.

Welcome. Cows outnumber people in your county. I make frequent runs to Reisdorfs feed mill in Java. Always like the drive. I’m 3 miles behind enemy lines in erie county. There were rumblings of our town and few others on the eastern edge of Erie succeeding to Wyoming county. Logistically it looked like it would be a pain

Cattaraugus is that also.

Although I am in Erie County, my town for sure has more cows than people.

New here as well, i grew up in Wyoming. The 5 point rod n gun club is a decent spot to shoot
the firing pin guys are good and offer the course fairly regularly
