Florida Senator Files Two New Gun Bills for 2018

On Wednesday, Steube, filed SB 120, which would make businesses, organizations, and other private entities that ban firearms legally responsible for a conceal carry permit holder’s safety.

In other words, if a CCW permit holder was injured by another person – or an animal – while on a business’ property where guns are banned, they could sue the business since the owner took away their ability to defend themselves.

I am sure every knows how I feel about guns, "Shall not be infringed" means just that.

But I don't agree with this legislation, the government was never meant to control us or business like this . for every new law they create the should be required to eliminate 2 previous ones

I have to agree with @misunderestimated on this. People have a right to not support businesses that restrict their 2A rights. There may be some that ya almost have to use, in that case either deal with them online, or find another business. If it were me, I'd go with the latter on that!

I fully support this. I had to travel to Pa the other day and being a LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, left my handgun at home while traveling with a big amount of cash to buy a vehicle. I did not feel comfortable...Thanks to the furher and all of Congress for their assinine position on Guns.

Pa permits are $20 and 20 minutes.

If they are responsible for you slipping on the ice if they don't salt their sidewalk, why not for your safety if they don't allow you to do it yourself ?

I look at it like a business that requires you to take off your shoes being responsible for not having broken glass on the floor.

If you invite the public into your business, you take some responsibility for providing a suitable environment.

Maybe they are just required to post a sign that they aren't responsible for you getting attacked right next to the one that disarmed you ?

If you choose to go to a business I personally feel you choose to accept the risks associated. Unless the business went out of the way to put you in danger, it's your fault. If you slip on the ice at your house, my business, or the International Space Station.

If they prohibit me carrying a gun, they *did* go out of their way to create the danger.

It's closer to them watering the sidewalk in the winter than just failing to salt IMHO.

This is not what legislation is meant for, Its not there responsibility to continue to put unjust burdens on the businesses. truth be known the business will be sued anyways there is no need for this feel good legislation. Its purely FEEL GOOD stuff. Let's work on the people committing the crimes stop the revolving door we call our judicial system lets work on getting the mentally ill out from under the bridges they call home and back into the healthcare system, lets work on stopping the generations of families on welfare, There are much better things to work on then feel good junk like this

its not a matter of responsibility, its a matter of the politicians thinking the should legislate it. That why we have attorneys and Juries , We should not continue to put unjust burdens on buisnesses of people.

You cant legislate this ,its not under the scope of what we put them in office to do

In an ideal world your utopian plan is perfect. However, with the myriad of inane laws passed for 'the sake of the children', the counter offensive, sometimes just to show the opposition that their legislation is ridiculous, needs to introduce legislation that superficially appears to protect everyone (not just children).

Do I agree with all the legislation on both sides? Hell no. But until you remove all the absurd laws already on the books (ha ha) then sometimes it takes two to tango.

This all has to do with liability.
You may not like it but its true.
If you open a business in the USA, you take some responsibility for the safety of your patrons.
If your child dies at SIX Flags from being clumsy and falling on their face......not the businesses fault.
If you child dies at Six Flags from falling off a ride due to an over looked saftey measure........it may be the businesses fault.
If you own a business you absolutely have SOME responsibility to keep people safe, both employees and patrons.
Is the law in this post dealing with a liability issue?
I dont know, the courts will have to figure it out if it passes.

Years ago I could carry to Buffalo city court and check my handgun in with the Sherriff's with no issue. Actually they were real nice. I now don't attend Sabre,Bison,Bills games or go anywhere where a handgun can be detected in a "no gun zone" . My 2 cents is that if a place restricts a law abiding, licensed citizen from carrying, they assume TOTAL responsibility for security. No gun zones are for law abiding citizens...as with the safe act; they aren't followed by the bad guys. IF the crap act is so safe....how does the furher explain teenagers carrying handguns ??

A business does not have to "go out of their way to put you in danger" to be liable, thats just not true.
MOST of the time a business is liable its from negligence..
Unless you say negligence is "going out of their way"

The time was actually 'always' to do the right thing. The layers are so incredibly thick it would require a new Plymouth rock, new group of pilgrims, 13 new colonies etc to drain the swamp.
It has become fight fire with fire and an eye for an eye in order to balance the scales of justice. Both sides have created this maelstrom and it will never change. Unless of course we find that Plymouth rock.

If a gun manufacturer knows they have a faulty product but still sells it, they may be liable.
If a gun manufacturer sells a product that was working properly at the time it left their care, they are not liable.
Proving either is a bitch.

I don't agree with a law like this, something happens in their store you have the opportunity to sue them in civil court, we don't need new laws for everything under the sun. Why don't they propose a law that makes them review all laws that are over 10 years old? If they want to keep them they have to be re-passed if not they become null and void.

I still have the option to do business elsewhere. If ALL the Chinese Restaurants decided to go "Gun Free", guess what.... I'll eat Italian! See what I'm sayin' here? WHY would you even want to do business with ANY business that wants to dis-arm ya' while your spending your money with them? That's the point that has me totally confused here. As for suing people/businesses because I tripped on their sidewalk... NOT GONNA HAPPEN! I have slipped and fell without calling Cellino and Barnes before!
