Oh wow. I would have hoped they would put it off to the side somewhere for you to pick up. Would hate for someone to accidentally take your luggage that looks just like theirs. Or just flat out steal it. It happens.

I dont know if you can do it or not but my pistol permit says it’s not good in nyc right on it. Also says you need the police commissioners permission to bring it in nyc. I wouldn’t risk it. Remember you need a permit to possess a gun not conceal it in your person.

Got through declaration and inspection in 10 minutes at Westchester.
Funniest part was when desk staff escorted me to security to check my suitcase after my declaration. I told the TSA guy that there were pistols locked in the luggage. He said, "I'm going to scan the bag. If it comes up with an alert, I'll call the police over for an inspection." He xrayed the bag and then said, "I'm going to have an officer come over now." All the while I was thinking: Dude...I just declared that there were four pistols in the luggage. Of course it came up with an "alert." You could have just called the officer immediately and saved 3 minutes. Regardless, cop checked that pistols were unloaded and that serial numbers were on my permits. That took only a few minutes.

In Stewart there is no cop. The ticket agent just looks to see if they are unloaded. That's it.

I'm glad all you heroes who aren't unicorn NYC pistol/rifle/shotgun permit holders are flying out of LGA and JFK, but I would never do it nor advise anyone else to try. And it's irresponsible to do so without pointing out how publicly and spectacularly sideways attempts at doing this have gone. Until that stops happening, I'm not going to risk spending time in Rikers and spending $$$,$$$ to get my good name and gun rights back on principle.
Hell I avoid flying at all these days much less with firearms much less out of NYC. Not loving the rapescans and TSA ball-fondling.
