Flying with ammo

I’m going to be in Florida for a bit soon and I’m debating hitting up a gun shop or two and checking on ammo stocks. What, if any, regulations are there when flying with ammo?

have them ship it to your home, IDK if UPS or FEDEX will ship it. But I think it would be much easier than trying to carry it aboard a plane

A guy I know did it when they traveled to AZ and he bought 11 lbs packed in his suitcase. He notified the airline and it was in its original box with no issues at all.

You are limited to 11 pounds of ammo. Most airlines say they require ammo in original boxes. Ammo is not required to be in a separate locked case.

all that being said:

when I fly I put the ammo I am taking in a plastic ammo case usually a 100 round box and then I put it in a locked pistol box. I used to fly with ammo in the magazines but, airlines are asking more questions about packaging these days.

Someone has to return the empty U-Haul trucks to NY. Usually you can get a better rate if going to a location in need of trucks on a one way gig. Top off your load with a dozen illegals bumming a ride north to hide your stash in case you get pulled over on the highway.

11 lbs isn’t worth it unless you can find a hard to obtain caliber. I’ll bet that’s only a couple of boxes. I get it though.
