Well the salt thread got me thinking... Lets talk about various methods of food preservation.
I don't have many skills in this area and this is something I should know more about.
What methods do you guys use? What works well?
I'm interested in learning how to can or preserve things I grow in my garden just for Anything from daily meals to food storage. and preserving meat/fish if some SHTF scenario required it.
For other long term food storage
I have been buying food that stores well (rice, flour, pasta, sugar etc) and storing them in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. I try to keep some canned goods on hand because "allegedly" if the can is free of defects in theory they should last way past the expiration date. And another thing I do is my kids Love peanut butter. I keep about 10 large jars of it on hand since it lasts like 2 years and just continually rotate it when I buy a new one.
