Ok, I think I'm pretty good at identifying prints and tracks, especially if I can study them. But, this is new to me. I found these tracks at the place I deliver to. They make manmade stone products. The tracks were in the soft sand which is dust consistancy. One picture has a dollar bill for scale, and one has an arrow showing direction of travel. I determined direction from a spot where the track crosses itself. What is this critter ? My best guess is some tiny little turtle or some kind of lizard. Any clues ?

Newly hatched turtles? I could see one wobbling along , making tracks like that. They hatch in the spring and find their way to the water their mother came from. Any water within a quarter mile or so?

Sand tracks are very difficult because they get distorted very easily. They do look like centipede tracks to me but they look rather large when compared to the dollar bill and if it’s locally I’m not sure there are any that large around here. Yes I know we get some big ones.
Stokes idea is also a great one and could be accurate. The salamander one makes sense for the appearance side but not the location side. I’ve never seen a salamander on sand and no tail drag either.

Tracks look too close together for salamander.

Turtle tracks from a newly hatched painted turtle. These tracks are made by the whole turtle. I know this, because turtlehead tracks tend to be a lot more messy and are usually found in underwear.
Ok, you're not going to believe this....I didn't believe it until I watched it happening. The tracks shown in the pictures above are made by a BEETLE ! These large copper color beetles only live for a couple weeks according to a local resident. I watched today as one of these beetles flew down and landed in the sand. It remained motionless for almost 20 minutes before it began crawling around, leaving the same tracks as in the pictures. The beetle is just over an inch long, and it's body is about ⅝" wide, legs extending further. My guess is that they would be rather painful to hit on a motorcycle.
