Dick Cheney...what a complicated figure. I wish no ill will to the dead or to his surviving relatives. Having said that...

Cheney represents everything that is wrong with the Republican Party, then and now. He along with Rumsfeld were indicative of its Neocon wing. The wing that got us into two foreign wars (Afghanistan and Iraq) that (in the case of Afghanistan) went on far too long and (in the case of Iraq) was completely unnecessary. How many American sons and daughters were killed, wounded, or maimed during those conflicts? You can't even say it was about the oil. It was all about enriching him and his buddies at Halliburton. Not only did those foreign misadventures lead to the descent of US standing in the world, it pushed the US, already financially overextended, to where we are now which is the brink of bankruptcy (granted Obama did not help at all in regards to that). He (and the rest of the Bush II Administration) allowed and supported the Patriot Act which led to the current mass government surveillance on all of its citizens in the name of counter terrorism and "national security" completely spitting on the Constitution. And let us not forget that his daughter was the one who went all in with the Dems against President Trump after January 6. Oh, and he shot a hunting buddy of his and never apologized.

I've told this story before. My uncle was a pilot who basically flew charter flights before private jets were a thing. His clientele were executives of oil companies (among others) going out to job sites out west. My uncle is a dyed in the wool conservative and a huge Second Amendment supporter. Also very much a "I never met a man I didn't like" kind of guy. One of his semi-frequent fliers was non other than Dick Cheney during his Halliburton days. I asked him once what he thought of the man. My uncle replied something to the effect of, "I got him there on time and safely." I think that tells me all I need to know about the guy.
