Bought a 1972 Formula 400 as first car when I was 15. Had to buy aftermarket lap belts and bolt them to floor lol. No shoulder harness.

I've a friend who's sister was seat belted and killed in the front seat when the passenger in the rear seat flew through her snapping her neck. Happened about 20 years ago. At the time the friend was a research technician in the crash labs at Calspan. From the accident investigation she probably would have survived.

Yes, and for every anecdotal statement supporting seatbelts there are anecdotal statements that don't support them.

Let's see ... A seatbelt protects YOU! But the govt wants to take a higher position and mandate that it knows what's best for you! Seatbelt laws are nothing and I mean NOTHING more than revenue generators!

You don't want to wear one, want to become susceptible to injury, it's your choice! Period! Driver doesn't want to check and ensure all are buckled, let's ticket him/her! Let's stop a vehicle because even though I couldn't see into the rear, I suspected there were unbelted passengers!

Nothing more than $$$ grabbing! And there's more to come! How about random road checks for tire inflation? Mandate SNOW tires in certain regions by date! How about drivers licensing RE-Testing every 12 years? Out of state vehicle tariffs, even private non-commercial ones. Wait for the govt snoops to follow NY residents out of state at nearby shopping centers notifying those of their State Tax responsibilities... And don't forget, if you leave NY and declare your new residence out of state, especially Florida (retiree's) you are practically 100% assured of an audit coming your way! No joke!

I'll agree with this but for one thing. You not wearing a seatbelt DOES effect me, as when you get injured and the insurance company spends lots of money on you then all rates go up.
If you want to sign a waiver releasing the ins. co. from spending big money then go ahead and don't buckle up.

Sorry, but NO actually, that is what "I" pay insurance for... Driving is a privilege, you don't have to drive and therefore don't have to pay insurance! Besides, you can shop different insurance companies to find one that offers you a price you are comfortable with. I don't have to drive either but I do. And I don't have to wear a seatbelt and would be subject to the consequences if that's what I choose.

Your proclamation could also apply to those who use $60 tires on their cars that have absolutely NO grip! Or those who fail to properly maintain their brakes! These two examples would render their ability to stop less than those who do.

So no... Not really! But I do understand where you might think somehow what others do, would affect you. The real problem then is thinking that provides the justification then to tell others what they should or shouldn't be doing! Here, in the State or NY, this mentality is deeply permeated into the subconscious mind of the masses! Again, this move is revenue driven in its entirety!

If hes not in a seat belt the claim is he will be dead. Seat belts save lives correct? Those survivors who sue everyone are the ones who cost you money. Not the dead ones.
