Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that the politically-charged, revolving conversation about guns in America must be taken on, and also says New York state and its SAFE ACT can prove an effective example.

Since the Florida school shooting, Cuomo said there's been a refrain from gun advocates about addressing mental health.

"Yes, it's a mental health issue, but it's a person with mental health issues who has access to guns," emphasized Cuomo, D-New York, in an interview with Spectrum News.

Cuomo said the names of more than 77,000 New Yorkers are on a database, which began as part the gun control legislation, and those are people who mental health professionals said should not have a gun.

Cuomo also said that no one who can pass a background check and can legally buy a gun has been deprived.

The SAFE Act became the law in New York after the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut.

So he is acting like the UnSafe Act is the reason for background checks? What a freaking turd. BTW, if nobody with mental illness can have a firearm how does he own a shotgun?

1) Know they're on it; and
2) Are on there for a legitimate reason

The answer is no one knows for sure. Hell, half the people probably don't even know they're on a database unless they go to buy a gun. Then whoops! Sorry you've been flagged as a mental defective and the best part is there's nothing you can do to get off it it, clear your name and have your rights restored. How the hell is that justice?

Personally, I say let Cuomo talk up his SAFE Act all he wants. The more he highlights it the more people will realize what a feel-good do nothing travesty of a law it really is.

I’d say plenty of law abiding gun owners in ny have been deprived. Permit renewal, standard mags, ar’s, the online ammo mess.

I tried to watch that video at the top of the article. After I viewed about 40 seconds worth, I shut it down for my laptop's safety.
I can't stand his face. Now I know how Europe felt about Adolf. And tv was sparse.
