Can anyone tell me why it’s illegal to keep an Eagle feather? It’s kind of weird. Ik it’s a symbol but I don’t see the issue keeping a fallen off feather.

As a side note off topic...I measured a job a couple years ago and the home was lake front Adirondack property. These folks had a Bald Eagle Stuffed and displayed proudly on the living room wall! I could tell by looking at it that it had been up there longer than I've been walking (and then some). It was a traditional looking mount with the bird standing proud with the wings tucked in.

Mounts from before the Law was created were grandfathered in. They can still be owned/bought/sold.

too often it was people who would kill a bird and claim they 'found' the feathers, or even the whole carcass.
so, once again, the minority assholes have ruined things for the rest of us.
At the time I was a Wildlife Rehabilitator we were told there were only three bird species it wasn't illegal to take/kill/possess.
European House Sparrow was one of them. And the three species were all 'invasive' species (ie: not native to America/New York). Everything else, from the common crow to the Bald Eagle, are Federally protected.
That the Tyrant isn't being prosecuted for this doesn't surprise me. These political shitbags always seem to get a pass from Laws that would sink us common folk.
