Clearly people on here have no concept of what most "felons" are in this state.

I don't agree with all the new age laws that create felons where none exist, but thats the shit hole we live in. I admit when I think of a felon I don't think of the guy that got caught a twenty round magazine, I think of felons as people that steal, rob, rape, murder, and whole assortment of violent and nonviolent crimes against people and businesses that are just going about their lives and are rudely interrupted by that scum.
Years ago I had a friend that worked in a prison, the stories about the people(?) that populated that institution would scare the living shit out of most people that someday they would be released upon society, with or without parole. They, for the most part are not TV felons with all the scripted good guys with 'good qualities that are just misunderstood' , the will go right back to creating the mayhem that landed them in prison in the first place.

I understand what you are saying but that's where the parole and probation thing should come into effect. Let's say a young kid committed an armed robbery in his twenties. He does his time and is on probation for a certain amount of years. Why can't he get his rights restored after his probation is complete and he's now in his 40's and is a working man with a family?

Obviously, a murderer shouldn't be released after 10 years, let out on parole and 2 years probation. His sentence should be long and hard and his probation long as well. If he breaks his probation, he goes back to jail. I see no reason why a man can't do 30 years for murder, 15 years probation and maybe then if clean for those 15 years, get his rights restored.

Our system is broken.

My issue is with blanket pardons, not with restoration of rights. Do your time, come out, get your rights back- all of 'em. Otherwise what's the point of getting out? Either you're fit to be a participating citizen or not. And if not, why are you getting out at all?

If that's what you think then okay. I can't make you believe otherwise. I will say this. I'm a felon that hasn't been caught. I'm no hypocrite. If I want what's right for myself or someone like me, I'd have to eat it even if the crime was perpetrated against me. I won't say that I wouldn't want the cocksucker dead immediately after it happened, but 40 years later if he stayed away from me, I'd stay away from him.

What about a scenario where that is almost impossible because his daughter and himself and everyone else is able to freely defend themselves with whatever arms they choose.

Actually,I didn't make that claim, and had you bothered to click either link you'd realize that. But I certainly agree with it, as they demonstrate plenty of people that "don't commit felonies on a regular basis" committing felonies on a regular basis.
