Fuel filter question?

I bought myself a new Outback recently. After a few days, I couldn’t help but notice a loud sound coming from my fuel system. Spoke to a “mechanic” at my range who told me to look at these. Apparently they reduce sound coming from the fuel system. Has anyone else tried one of these for their fuel system’s loud noises?

My wife has an Outback, and I've never heard any strange noises from the fuel system before, but all of a sudden I think I heard something. Maybe it's a warranty issue? If so, I can get the dealer to pay for the filter, right?

They may cover it but at $69 and considering I wouldn’t want anyone knowing about this sound, I recommend ordering it yourself.

But I thought it was part of the motor vehicle law that uncontrolled sounds were not tolerated. Did I miss something?

what year is the Outback? the 2009 to 2012/13 had a head gasket issue, if it's in those years, get rid of it ASAP

It’s brand new but it’s so loud. I can hear the fuel as it travels from the tank to the injectors. It’s as loud as a 9mm AR. This item seems like it can handle both.

I would first check local automotive stores sometimes these are available without the hassle of dealing with customs I ordered something recently and it was opened and held up a bit just took longer in it's travels

Just keep in mind that these type of filters will only work with a fixed inline gas system. If it's a reverberatory injection system you will need a tilting oscillator extender attachment for it to work properly. Without it it will consistently stall.

On low pressure lines you can use lubrication to increase efficiency but on high pressure lines you need to leave these filters as is.

Helps if you use some lucas lubricant and injector cleaner on a occasionall basis just to keep it running smoothly

I've heard of people getting in trouble before these even reach the door because they're not "eco-friendly". Tread carefully when modifying your vehicle like this.

My wife has a 2018 Outback 2.5 Limited and aside from it sounding like a diesel for the first few seconds after starting it up, there are no weird or loud noises coming from anywhere. I also have a few Subarus, a 2013 Legacy 3.6, a 2011 WRX and a 2018 STI. Except for the STI that I installed a high volume fuel pump, none of them make any loud noises that come from the fuel system.

You should definitely take it to the dealer to have them look at it.

These types of filters will benefit all your equipement no matter how quiet you think it is.

FYI, from Napa it’s $140 and only lasts a few “reports” then would need to be replaced. These ebay ones look to be better designed for handling loud noises consistently. On the fuel system I mean of course.

Geez, I really need to get out more often and stop taking people so literally! I read quite a few of the responses and wondered WTH??
