I saw a fa 10/22 go for $1800 (no law letter required). I am thinking about making one so when i give up my SOT i can use all the toys for retirement money.

Full auto 22 makes a ton of sense for playing around. Cheap with minimal recoil. Night time would have looked better, though.

when you say no law letter, do you mean not an NFA item?

I'm feeling to lazy to search, but NFA or not, doesn't NY have its own law against select-fire rifles, like they do for other NFA items (SBR, SBS, suppressors, etc)?

They do.

But (and this is just from memory, so someone more knowledgeable feel free to correct me), a class 3 dealer (i.e. dealer, not manufacture of NFA weapons) can possess post '86 machineguns, but he cannot just order some "for inventory". He needs a letter from an organization (pretty much LE only AFAIK) requesting a "demo" or something of a particular model before he can order one. He can then keep the weapon in inventory even if they dont buy (or even actually show up for the demo I think )

Probably not too hard to justify for an AR, but getting the sherriff to request a "demo" for a full auto 10/22 would be a bit more problematic.

BTW, dont forget that post 86 MGs dont cost much more than their semi-auto versions. so an '85 select fire AR might be more than $15k an '87 might go for <$2k
