G/F wants a .22, I want a bigger 9mm

A little background- I carry a P320C daily. I'm confident, comfortable, and most importantly accurate with it. My girlfriend got her CCW late last year and decided on a P365 after trying a handful of similar guns. She is slightly less confident than she wants to be but also has not practiced at the range since COVID.

In the last few days, she has gotten a bug to buy another pistol. I totally support this. She wants a .22 because they are cheap and have less recoil. I think we should get a larger 9mm for the house that is easier to shoot (being larger) and a better defensive caliber.

Suggestions..... and GO!

Not because she needs a .22, or because it's a fun caliber to shoot, but because when YOU want to buy a gun, and it's something she won't want to shoot, you can mention the .22 SHE CHOSE. Count your blessing to have a woman in your life that wants to buy a gun, and quit bitching that it isn't the one you want, it's a perfect reason for YOU to buy the one YOU want.... Be it a 9mm, a .45, or a .50AE. Bank that leverage while you can, damn it. :lol

In all seriousness, she can pick out what ever she wants, as long as she's paying. The more she likes the gun, the more she will shoot, and the less she will complain about the cost of your shooting.

Good, thats a great carry gun.
If she wants the 22 for range use and cheap plinking, thats awesome and a good idea. 22 are fun and inexpensive to buy and shoot.
My wife carries either a Shield 9mm or a Ruger SP101 with Golden Sabre 38 SP +P.
When we were at the gun store the other day she showed interest in a Ruger Mark IV 22 pistol after I explained its use as a target gun.
Im sure we will be buying it within the week.

HAHA the replies have been very entertaining. I know she's a keeper!!! And believe me, I'm not bitching because she wants another gun. I'm not so stuck on the caliber thing I was just curious what other people would suggest. It was more of a playful debate between the two of us.

From what I've seen, revolvers seem to be a little more reliable in .22. Is this consensus pretty universal or are there some good .22 semi autos out there? How about the new Glock in .22?

I'm not discounting any suggestions made so far either I'm just trying to get a healthy list together to chose from.

The Ruger Mk IV is best of breed! It likes most ammo and is super easy to take down for cleaning. The basic design has been around for for decades. Great triggers out of the box and upgradable if needed.

Look into the Taurus TX22. Don't let the name fool you. It's the most reliable 22 I own, and you'll find that general consensus across the board. And it's super cheap.

Be a good man and support her wants and needs and buy as many as she wants. The obvious answer is get both.

Ruger SR22 (iirc) is one if the best semi automatic. 22lr (based in a full size center fired) handgun on the market. Especially when it comes to reliability (from what I have read and heard, no personal experience)

I think shed be more confident and comfortable carrying with a .22 until the weather gets nice and we can go practice with her 365 and raise her confidence.

Okay then I would suggest something that is then very close to the size, function and feel of her 365. I have a M&P 40/9 conversion full size and a M&P 22 full size for just that reason, also a Sheild 9mm and the 22 compact JMHO!
