Garand issue

I'm new to the Garand world , going to learn about it now. First trip to the range today with a GB purchase.

After 2-3 rds. tries to eject the enblock and jams up. tried 2 different lots of surplus hpx and different e blocks with same result.

Any input , before I start research and tear down ?

Take it apart, lube it and check for rub marks on the interior of the stock.

Could also be the long trigger guard spring, located (if memory serves me) on the bottom of the trigger housing. This spring is what ejects the enblocs. Might be time for a new spring kit.

Does your range do CMP/Service Rifle shoots? if so, it's likely some of them still use Garands in their matches. Talk to them - they will likely tell you more than you ever wanted to know about Garands.... LOL.

And I failed to note that I bought one to honor my Dad. It means more to me than any other rifle I own. It's not a safe queen; at 75 years old, it shoots fine. Me, not so much.

Got her open , op rod was a mf to disconnect; the op rod and spring are jammed up. Dont want to slide out fer nuttin. Gettin to know her now..lol

First time is always hard. You always end up with a messy rod.

NO Garand shoots here, sadly.

I had this problem on an M1 of mine years ago. To the best of my memory, I put in a new clip latch spring and bullet guide and the problem never returned.
I suspect the problem was the clip latch spring.

Edit; Seeing Prog's post about the op rod catch assembly has me wondering if I replaced that also.

The broken part in your pics is the accelerator. Very easy to get...but most times you have to buy the whole opod catch. About $45 or so.. And yes the oprod is supposed to be bent like that.

Well she passed the tilt test well, bolt locks up, no resistance anywhere, I think that rules out the op rod at fault. First step is going to be the op rod catch assy. , since the accelerator hit the floor on disassembly. CMP doesn't show a pic. You can call customer service and ask. They have an excellent reputation for helping customers. I have had many dealings with them over the years and was never disappointed.

The whole m1 thing was pretty pointless though, should have just gone straight to the m14 or at least updated the m1 ( a la BM59).
Why go to the trouble to give a guy semi auto firepower, but restrict the mag capacity.

Patton thought it was an OK effort. Enough guys with rapid fire capability has a quality all it's own. I suspect an awful lot of dead adversaries armed with bolt action rifles of whatever kind would agree it was effective, also.
