Gave some exercise to my stationary SHTF inverter set up

Snow is falling, power went out few hours ago. Gave it a good 45 minutes with just my portable 18 mAh so I had lights and electronics charging. After that I got bored so I ran the ole new ole 4000w inverter through the 160 mAh and ran all I wanted. So I netflixed a tad, but being the OCD dude I can be, I had to keep jumping up and clamping on the DC amp tester,to be happily unsatisfied and sit back down watch alittle and feel the urge to do it again in the near future.. Hehehe. Everything works great, powers back on and I'm already topping them both off with a 15 amp smartcharger now

I want my Gas Forced Hot Water Boiler to continue during an outage. I can survive without the TV, Internet, Lights, etc.

The only electronics are the Aquastat, 2 Zone Valves, 2 Thermostats, one Circulator Motor.

I don't need an automatic solution. Flicking a switch or even swapping a plug would be ok.

Can a Power Inverter and a 12VDC Auto Car Battery, with a Trickle Charger, work for me ?

Thermostats, Zone Valves, Circulator all powered by Aquastat.

So at full load 960 Watts. I assume Full load only while circulator is running. Round off to 1KW.

1W =1VA

So a UPS must provide 1K VA ?

I bet it would work for hours.

1W only equals 1VA if the power factor is also 1.

If the power factor is anything else, then the VA will be higher than the W by the difference.

A space heater would have a power factor of one. An electric motor would not.

Power factor is essential a coefficient to describe how "well behaved" an AC electrical load is.

It doesn't apply to DC where there is just Watts and amps and reactive power isn't a thing.

So, the length of time it will run it would be the kWh rating of the UPS / the time average power usage of the system.

Time average would be the power when it's running (i.e. ~1kW as you said above) times the duty cycle (i.e. if it runs 15mins per hour, that would be 0.25).

You would really need to measure those values to know. Just basing it off the name plate ratings is likely to give you a very conservative estimate, it might last 4x-10x as long or more.
