Was able to (forced) to spend some more time in a ground blind last season. Not my preferred method as I like to be in the open spaces, but when freezing rain and high winds come to call, I'm hard pressed to want to stay outdoors.....believe me, I tried.
Had a small single man blind last year. Worked as it should and I actually got a nice pistol doe from it.
PROS: Obvious.
CONS: Small, too low, and not very resistant to snow / wind. I did set it up quickly, and under normal conditions it worked well. Soft wet floor sucked. Anything more than a light snowfall wasn't appreciated. Heavy snows we got basically flattened it.
Had some Amazon gift cards and put them toward a Rhino R180 see through. My last one had the traditional openable zipper windows. This has (2) full height / width see through sides to it. BIG difference. This has silent sliding windows so you can leave them closed as long as you need to.
Wanted to add:
1. A solid floor for my new silent swivel chair.
2. Larger overall space. This one measures 58" x 58" x 58". Feels much more roomy.
3. Support / mounting system to combat the wind / snow.
Decided on lightweight 1" PVC tubing. Strong enough, inexpensive, and lightweight. Bought the corner connectors on Amazon. Was going to put small screws through the joints but the press fit seems like it will hold just fine.
Will be building a 2 x 4 treated subframe, in (2) pieces for transport. That will be decked in 1/2" CDX and joined on site. The PVC frame will be fastened to the deck with electrical conduit clamps and then the blind to the frame with heavy duty paracord through the provided eyelets in the blind.
There will also be a removable center support for the roof structure.
BLIND: $ 199.00
PVC CONNECTORS: $ 22.00 / DOZEN
1" PVC TUBING: $ 49.00 for 6 @ 10'
TOTAL THUS FAR: $ 270.00
Will continue to update as it progresses.
