This is a short 2-minute video that talks about the importance of being mobile. Everybody should incorporate some sort of practice that requires movement. It's very easy to get used to standing still when most people can only get to a shooting range where they have to stand in one spot. For those of you that don't have the ability to shoot on private property this is something you can practice at home with a completely empty gun. You can even use a fake gun to be safer if you want.

This is essentialy the "Get off the X" theory. Side stepping one or two steps right or left as your draw and engage. While this will work in an open environment, Close quarter and confined spaces your movement is limited.
One of the many origins of the "get off the x" theory comes from the samurai. Waiting until the last second when your opponent would strike to move and counter strike. So think of a samurai coming in for that fatal over the head downward diagonal strike and then the intended victim side stepping at the last second and delivering a upward diagonal slash to the lower abdomen up to the torso and they step past the attacker. Getting off the X is also another great way to disrupt your attackers "OODA Loop". If you are not familiar with the OODA loop thought pattern you can wiki it.

Again it's a theory of changing and counter acting before your attacker has time to register the change, process it and reorient themselves to proceed with another attack.

At last weekend training on traumatic first aid, the scenario was: while walking through parking lot to restaurant with group of friends bad guys begin shooting at us and 2 of 5 go down wounded.

Since recently being instructed on how to apply tourniquets, pressure dressings, chest seals I dove right in to help my injured friend. WRONG! Unnoticed by me a bad guy came up behind me and shot me in the back of my head.
So make sure you are safe before lending assistance, get off the x with injured, find cover to treat injured, bad guys often work in pairs, trios... Maintain situational awareness while offering aid!
