Not sure why I actually asked because my 32gr Sierra Blitzking coming out of my barrel at 4100fps didnt do shit for damage either. Im pretty sure those soft points are semi built for penetration though,,,think thats what I have loaded up for my 223,,,,I didnt load them up for penetration but because they were cheap. They were hornady SP, I have another brand new box of 1000 that I dont know what to do with,,,they are 55gr and they shoot crappy out of my new Lilja barrel compared to the RRA upper I sold to a buddy,,,,hmm he is getting into reloading,,,maybe he will want them
I've been itching to put together a AR geared toward varmints. I really want to do a prairie dog hunt in the next 10 years. Especially with a 3 1/2 year old having a light recoil precision AR will be a good teaching platform.
Well if you ever get to the Rochester area look me up if you want. I have a 223 AR that I built that has a Lilja barrel and a Geissele SSA-e trigger that I never use. I would rather use the 204, even know the 223 is much cheaper to reload for. Built the 204 so that I could use it during deer season to hunt coyote in shotgun only areas.

Little of everything. Better ballistics less recoil, and I can use similar materials (bullets, powders, etc) reloading for my .243.
Went chuck hunting. Got out in the fields and forgot about the grass not being mowed. Walked about 20yds and could just barely make out what I thought was a chuck. Looked through the scope at it and still wasnt sure,,,could of been just a lump of dirt. It was only roughly 50yds away. I pulled the trigger and heard what sounded like a hit. Walked over and sure enough I whacked a chuck. Took pic and continued to walk but only walked halfway around the fields and said to myself,,,,this sucks. Started heading back. When I got to the end of the field I saw another chuck. I ranged it,,,,at least I thought I was ranging it because I could barely make out its head popping up. It measured 248yds. Punched in measurements into my software, dialed scope, then shot and missed. It moved about 3ft away. I steadied my aim one more time,,,,shot and missed. I was like WTF. Only thing I could think of is that my range wasnt quite right.
Ok, couldnt keep wanting one and coming up with a reason why I shouldnt buy one and then after numerous times of doing that, saying fuck it and put one on order from Brownells. 964 bucks not including 25 FFL fee that the firing pin will charge me when it is delivered, plus they might charge me tax. RPR 6mm Creedmoor coming my way. My excuse for buying one was coyote hunting,,,,I want the 204 for coyote hunting because it can be used in shotgun deer hunting areas,,,,and I didnt want my high powered scope that I have on it while coyote hunting. So I now have a long range RPR chuck gun with a Nikon FX1000 6-24 scope on it or will have it once its delivered. We are going to have to get together so you can show me how to test the gun to see if I will have the problems you had or we can just go shoot. Expect a bunch of questions to come your way

That's good news. If you're lucky and the barrel is good you'll be a happy camper. I'd get at least 10 boxes Hornady Match 108ELD's to get you going. Should be enough for break in and general use. TSUSA usually seems reasonable but shop if you like. Can't remember if you reload. I'd say we hook up my way and maybe I can snrek you into the club. We'd have a solid bench setup to take your time and get it sighted out to 250. Make sure you pick the right height rings. Lower the better as the stock cheek rest only goes up so high. High rings will prob not be a good choice. Not sure what you wanna spend on a bipod but I like my Atlas because you can cant the legs forward for a comfortable height on a bench, and stand up higher if in the field.
I was just on TSUSA website and was going to get some 108's but decided to wait until Brownells sends me a email that it shipped. The gun is first or second gen,,,it has the keylok hand rail instead of the m-lok. I do reload and will more than likely do that but probably not at first. Are you using Hodgons H4350 powder and Hornady 108gr bullets?

I've committed to H4350 and typically run 115DTAC's but I've had decent luck with 105's (Nosler RDF) and 108's (ELD's). Doesn't seem too picky. I did test a load today of 4350 at 41.0 grains and was really pleased with the velocities (just above or below 3000). Very consistant. No pressure. Grouped pretty good too. This thing would make me go broke if I didnt reload. Fun to shoot for sure.

Do you use large primer or small primer cases? Which manufacturer do you use? Do you buy the boron nitride bullets from d-tac or the regular ones?
Sometime in July my buddy and I are driving out to Auburn,,,its 1.5hrs from us,,,so maybe 2.5 for you. They have a 400yd range to use for 5 bucks a day. I will let you know when we go in case you want to come. Im not sure how long your range is,,,think you told me 250.

I started with Hornday box ammo so I'm still reloading that brass. Holding up well except for some looser primer pockets. I bought 200 Starline and mixing them in now. I use large primer since that's what I started with. Just simpler I guess.
DTAC's I bought off another forum are uncoated / unrebated. Not many left from my original 1000 bought.
I might be available for a road trip. Some club guys keep talking about Ridgeway which is 2:20 from me and I get 1000 yards for my time so Auburn might not be in the cards.
