The catch with the AR lowers is the giant thread for the recoil tube. That's not a cheap part. Granted, with a proper program and cutter, you can cut the threads on a mill. It's just not a very common thing to do.

Someone could easily come up with another way of doing that part.

Could make a buffer tube that just pressed in and was retained with a snap ring or something.

Or a buffer tube that had a lip on the end and you just press it in from the front.

Or even a threaded bushing that goes in a slightly oversized hole using one of those methods and a regular buffer tube screws into it.

Someone making those bushings in bulk could do it very cheap, and with no more paperwork than a paperclip.

Any clip etc etc would keep the upper from closing on the lower.

Why reinvent the wheel. The 80s come with all the hard parts done. If you have the knowledge skills and ability to craft from one solid piece of aluminum, you can duplicate it easily.

Unless you are cranking out a lot of lowers I still don't see the point to this thing really and how many unmarked lowers do you legitimately want for your personal collection (since you can't make them with the intent to sell unless a legit firearm manufacturer)?

I've wondered the same thing. The cost difference between an 80% and a completed receiver is pretty small. Add in the cost of the machine, cutters, power to run it, then a finish (anodize, cerakote, etc), the 80% ends up costing more unless, as you said, you're cranking out a LOT of them. But then what do you do with the 100 receivers since you can't sell them? It's just not cost effective.

The intent of the Ghost Gunner was to show the Government that no matter how hard they try the Jeanie cannot go back into the bottle. It was never about making cheap lowers. It is the ability to make them without government oversight and noseyness. It is no different than having a forge in the 1300s, the capability to make a sword is the capability to keep a free people armed.

Only if the lower didn't have a recess machined for the clip / lip / whatever to recess into.

I am just thinking of what it would take to eliminate the machining steps to that are difficult with something like a ghost gunner.

Obviously if you can start with a piece that already has the threads done there, that is easiest.

Guys. You have to remember, not everyone has our pay/money base. You have to looks at it that way.

$1600 really is not that much money in the whole scheme Of things. Yes, it is alot of money to me, and maybe "you". But in the end of the day it's not that much money.

Some people have $5000 optics, some other people have hundred thousand dollar cars, some people have $75,000 pickup trucks. Some people going hunting trips to Canada for $10,000. Other people go on safari to Africa for $25,000. None of these things I do. But there are people, and many people, that do these things.

So if some guy decided to buy a cool machine like this make themselves a couple of cool lowers for him and show his kids how to do it etc. Etc. it would be a great thing to do, and then in the end of the day you could sell the machine for almost what you paid for it.

That being said. I'm ready to sell mine. $1400. No wait. Pick it up.
