So she only listened to the people who DON'T have access to private healthcare and now wants to take away from those who do. Evil political corrupt whore.

The strange thing is I think a single payer system would be good for a lot of Americans. I still can't believe how fucked up health care is in this country. I can afford good health care. Those on the margins really can't. I think they have been largely bamboozled by healthcare lobbyists. Personally, selfishly, status quo is okay for me. Like I said, I have a plan, a funded HSA account. I like being able to see a specialist quickly or get an MRI without waiting 6 months. Because lack of insurance focuses a limited healthcare supply on those who have it.

I hope the democrats keep pushing this. If they adopt the view that there should be no private industry industry, the amount of money that insurance lobbyists will throw at Trump in the next election could be large.

They also need to really get behind the green new deal type stuff. Blast big oil, why not blast big pharma, too. Have it so their best funded lobbyists are little hemp growers.

I agree with you to a degree. The healthcare system is pathetically screwed up for reasons we don't have time (nor do I have the patience) to get into. I just don't think the government running it is the answer.

LOL, when Medicare first appeared the GAO said it would cost about $6 Billion in the first 10 years, at the 10 year mark, Medicare hit $160 billion. Name one thing the governement has done that didn't cost an astronomical amount of money. I go one Medicare in about 30 to 45 days, and quite frankly, Im scared to death. I take three medications on a daily basis, only one ( the cheap one) is covered by Medicare? go figure

Are you serious? I'm not sure. If you are just look at the VA med system, if your one of the peons your care could be anywhere from good to non-existent as in go behind the barn and die! But if your connected then your golden, the same would apply to politicians and the powerful with a single payer system. I won't even get into the cost other than to say nothing more expensive than when it's "free"!

It is a fact the US spends a ton on healthcare, far more than other industrialized nations, and there is no indication it gets the outcomes it ought to for that spend, overall. Not that it's all apples to apples.

Call it what you will but Obama's push for no preexisting conditions was a huge plus. The fact it took that long is crazy. I have money. I have no conditions, but good Lord, let's get real. Sometimes you get dealt a shit hand and being denied health care (because without modern insurance you are effectively denied it from a practical standpoint), it just sucks, no other word for it.

Like I said, status quo works for me selfishly due to my lot in life. But I'm really surprised less wealthy people haven't already taken pitchforks to Washington. Convincing a family of five on $70k/year that "government healthcare" is bad for them is a fucking pedagogic marvel. As in very good job and congratulations are in order for whoever is responsible for still convincing them of that.

What's rather ironic is that a lot of people against this single payer system cannot wait until they qualify for medicare. I can't think of many 65 year olds chomping at the bit to buy private insurance.

Let us not forget some other fun things private insurance does, like you are under duress because blood is pumping out of a stump that used to be your hand, so you go to the ER. It's in network. Great. Oh, except the doctor who helped you is out of network. Too bad, you get to pay out of network on that one, you should have checked first. I believe NY recently put a law in to prevent this sort of crap, but it's still a thing in other states.

Just remembered, here's a good one. I've read of people getting a procedure and then submitting for reimbursement and insurance denying it. "Stupid fool, you gotta get pre-approval first!" Yep, They did. Apparently pre-approval is not really pre-approval, it's like kind of probably maybe pre-approval. People get hosed daily by this industry.

I'm old enough to remember having a major medical policy that covered us for major expenses like heart attacks, cancer ectra. That was contracted between the insurance company and you or your employer. As far as "pre existing conditions" They where covered too, yes that's right. When you started your first job at 18 and picked up your insurance it took over from your parents policy, as long as you didn't have a long lapse in coverage and or started a job with a employer that had a MAJOR plan they NEVER ASKED ABOUT HEALTH OR PRE EXISTING CONDITIONS! They just covered them!
Yeah we spend a LOT of money on health care but ever think about the fact that we ( U.S.) have VERY BEST health care in the world? As the Federal government gets bigger and continues to demand more and more power by inserting itself into the health industry the costs keep going higher and higher because you have to carry a policy to cover pregnancy drug rehab ectra. I'm 60+ I don't plan on having any more kids and my drug days are waaayyy past so why should I pay for that? I'm in good health why can't I have just a basic policy? NOOO the goobermint has determined what's best for me and what I need and then makes me pay for it!

What I find ironic is the fact so many people are willing to bankrupt their children or grandchildren to benefit themselves!

I forgot to add, I pay $5200 a year for my share of insurance , my employer paid another $16000! That's sixteen thousand dollars that's over $21,000 per year for my wife and I and we still have a $2000 per person deductible . This is also cheaper than a NY policy because my company is in NE. This totally out of hand! The more involved the gvmt gets in private business the more it costs. It's not just health care look at school loan debt look on you property tax bill and see just how much of your local cost are getting subsidized by the state/feds.

My health insurance is great so I too am being a bit selfish here too, but I can’t see how the government will run it cheaper or better. Also that means expanding the government, costing people thier jobs, and making more people dependent on the government. Those things are never good. Also I can see things like a physc evaluation or them saying you have to pay more or will be denied if you have guns in your home.

Having a single payer system would be like having no choice for a plumber or auto mechanic, do you think he's going to worry about the fact that your not happy with his service and pricing? If you have a choice of providers then you can shop for what YOU want and a price you can afford. Capitalism breeds competition. Government subsidy's breeds higher costs and dependency.
