Also look at the Walter PPQ, I’ve heard good things about the trigger on that one.
Also look into the S&W M&P 22 Compact for a inexpensive shooter.

I have both, the VP9 and the PPQ, and the trigger on the PPQ is so much better than almost every standard trigger I've felt on other striker fired guns. The only one that comes close, and I'd even dare say is better, is the one on the Canik TP9sf. Excellent trigger.

I just ordered one. I'll let you know when I get my paws on it. I've also heard very good things, and they're very reasonably priced. I chose the Elite, which is Glock 19 size.

All kinds of nice stuff out there to try and maybe buy...

- for initial practice in .22, I like the Ruger SR22, and especially the S&W Model 617 revolver (stainless)
- a snubby .357 revolver like the S&W Model 60 or its' clone, - the Ruger SP101 (both stainless)
- a full size Glock such as a 9mm Model 17
- a S&W full size M&P .45 for the bedside (easily customizable) Also, 15 round factory mags available where legal)
- a full or Commander sized stainless 1911 in .45
- a S&W M&P Shield in either 9mm or .45, - or both
- a S&W Model 686
- a S&W Model 629 .44 mag

You must follow the rules that everyone likes or they'll get mad at you. Start off with a .22LR then a full sized revolver, followed by the biggest gun you can get with a neutered 10 round magazine (you know for sight radius) and finally a CCW piece.

I don't follow such nonsense. My advice is to skip all the other nonsense and just get one that can serve 2 roles. CCW and home defense.

After that, you can tinker with other niche calibers and guns.

At the very least I'll always reload for the enjoyment of it. I sometimes feel like I enjoy reloading more than actually shooting. As far as components they seem to be getting a little better. With brass at least. There are some new companies like Jagemann that are starting to make brass for 25acp. And of course you can just buy a few boxes of commercial and make sure to NEVER EVER lose the brass. The bullets (cheaper ones) can be harder to find though. As far as reloading I've rigged up a way to actually be able to consistently throw the 1. whatever grains on a progressive press so it's pretty standard fair when it comes to reloading. Just remember the reloading stuff will always be the last to go when times get tough.

Yes, that is what I wear most days. But if I had to pick only one, do everything handgun, it would be the venerable G19.

My app is going in December 28th, between then and the time i get my permit, give me a list of guns that i should scout out from friends or go rent out of state to try out. Im going to be doing some shooting out of state anyways so its in no way a single mission ordeal.

I can't even decide if I want a striker or hammer fired, SA, DA/SA or DAO.

I haven't even decided what size full size, compact or subcompact/single stack.

I plan to hold and fondle as many as possible and shoot as many as I can.

Ideally I would like to stay under 500$ the only thing I think I've settled in is 9mm.

I have it narrowed down to

Sig p250, p320, 2022

CZ p07 , P10

Springfield XD or XDs and even the XDe (all the model sizes that compare to the above glocks)

Walther pps, ppq, creed

SW M&p and shield (same size models as glock and springfield)

They are ugly I get it (I swore I would never own a Glock), but when I friend let me shoot his Glock and I shot better than I did with my 1911 I was a believer. I really attribute the better shooting to better fit in my hand. I use to believe that was just bunch a of BS, but I was proven wrong again. If you ever in the CNY area close to turning stone casino get a hold me and we will go shooting. (24-7 indoor range so weather makes no difference)

Of all those, here is what you get with Glock.

Tons of aftermarket support. If you want anything... Holsters, sights, trigger upgrades, parts, barrels, caliber conversion kits, carbine conversion kits, accessories or gimmicks with skulls on it, ect, they will make it for a Glock before any of the others.

Striker vs Hammer? Consistent trigger, no special gadgets you need to press to fire or decock, ect.

My first pistol was a ruger p95 DC in 9mm. I shot ok with it. Then I got a 1911 45 ACP and shot way better. Then I got a g19 and didn't shoot so well again. That grip angle is just weird. With experience I can shoot all my pistols well now though but I still give the edge to the 1911 over the glock. But try whatever you can.

That's a good choice too being that it's adopted by the Army. There will be tons of aftermarket support for it just like Glock.

You will not get that with a Walther, other Sigs, HK, or Springfield. For those, things come out at a much slower pace. Sometimes certain things don't make it to those platforms.

My preference is an all metal gun.
