Glock 29sf

Anyone here own a Glock 29sf?
If so how is it, is the extended pinky grip on the mags, necessary?
What ammo do you shoot out of it, I've seen the "full bore" ammo are a bit to much for this pistol or just enough if you like recoil hah.

I went to the lgs to see about ordering a 1911, which they said could do but when I was there to do it, they happen to have no sources for it anymore. But had a G29sf in stock. It fit okay, but I am just wondering if the mag grip would be worth it, considering the 10mm caliber is a bit spicy.

No 10mm here but I EDC a .40 cal G27. Can't get much closer than that. It is an accurate, snappy shooter that can make the small grip seem smaller. Would say that there are a lot of places to look for your 1911 so don't stop if that is what you want. Your LGS wants to sell what they have not what you can order.

If it is similar to a 30s I would say yes, I cant control a pistol like that well with a 2 finger grip. If you started out looking for a 1911 that is a pistol that is a completely different animal.

I wish I had my M&P on me when I was at the shop so I could compare the size to that, but it is smaller. Although I have the EZ9, which I wish I didnt buy but that is another story in itself lol. I just want something to replace it as my carry and be able to go into the woods with.

That's what I was thinking, the pinky extension is a must, and even then it might just barely do. I can handle the recoil but it'd be impossible to control with a 2 finger grip.
I am completely open minded really on a 10mm, I want a new EDC and something that I can take into the woods with. A 1911 sure fit that bill too

After a couple of thousand rnds through the G27 it is quite natural for me to place pinky finger under mag well and cradle it with support hand. Don't really care for mag extention.

This might be slightly off the topic you're looking for, but do you reload ? I'm not sure I'd really recommend a 10mm to someone who doesn't... unless perhaps money is no issue, but even then ammo availability can be an issue; especially in current times. If you're going to try to use a subcompact 10mm as a carry gun (I'm assuming for carry if you're looking at something that small), you're going to need to train with it.. a lot.. if you expect to be able to make fast and accurate follow up shots. I personally have around 25+ years of mainly (by far) pistol training, and I don't think it'd ever be my choice... but, that's me and everyone is different.

As to the issue at hand, that too depends on you. As I've said before, I have quite large hands (skinnyish fingers, just big), and I very much need a pinky extension, or whatever extra grip, I can get on most very small guns. The P938 I carry most often, I pretty much just can't use it with the flush fit mags. Even with the extended grip mags I can just get a tiny bit of my pinky on there, which affords a tiny bit more control anyway. I would not want to keep 10mm under control with no pinky personally, so it really all depends on how the gun fits your hand.

Honestly, I'm not even especially comfortable carrying 9mm 938 I mainly do, based primarily on the issue of my grip on it, but for me it came down to not feeling quite up to always carrying around the all steel full size guns I did for most of my life anymore. I still put on a full size gun if there's somewhere I have to go that I'm more likely to need it (but mostly, better yet, avoid such places entirely whenever possible)

Also, your posts make it sound like you really want a 1911.. so just get a 1911.

Also, always remember that sometimes the gun that the store is trying to sell you on is what they're having trouble selling for a reason.

I definitely get that. Though it was many years ago now, I had the exact same experience (shooting someone else's 10mm 1911) and got all hyped about getting a 10mm in the same way. At the time, a trainer, one wiser than me, talked me down and out of it; based largely on the argument that I was not a reloader. While I always wanted to be, I'm still not one; so between that and probably just somewhat not wanting to add a new caliber, I never get one myself.. though I have fired one or two others, and probably still kind of want one somewhere in the back of my brain if I'm honest. If I did ever get one, it would very likely be in a full size 1911.. or possibly an S&W 610 revolver.

If you are considering it for conceal carry edc I would avoid. I had a G27 Gen 5 that I tried to edc for a bit and ended up getting rid of it. The 29 slide and frame are as wide as the 45acp Glocks so from a width perspective it can print more easily than a slimmer gun. The problem I found was that the barrel was so short that it kept feeling like it wanted to tip out of my pants. Think along the lines of a keel on a boat that is too short. With 40 (and 10) the center of gravity when carrying is going to be much higher up the grip due to having bigger heavier bullets up in the grip, which contributes to a more “tippy” gun in the holster. When I carry my 43 or 48 I don’t have that problem. Shooting wise I hsve shot a 29 and found it to be like the 20, in that they are on the softer recoiling side of the 10mm. You always know your shooting 10mm as it is snappy but it was never uncomfortable. For these reasons I decided against getting the 29 and instead plan on getting a 20

imo, there are better options for a EDC gun, unless you live in bear country or you "want" a 10mm.
It would be fine as a woods gun.
Shooting 10mm hot load such as buffalo bore or underwood can be a handful. The magazine pinky extension can be helpful.

The G29SF is similar in size to the G30SF or G30 gen4 (w/o backstraps.) SF stands for short frame (distance from trigger to backstrap).
I have a G30 (similar size to G29), it is chunky to carry.

Hunters that carry a 10mm Glock (backup) often prefer the G20 full size frame which handles recoil better.

But it seems like you were looking for a 1911 in 10mm when the LGS tried to sell you a G29SF. I would stick with your first choice if you're looking for a 10mm pistol. The 1911 will handle the recoil better & you can get a full grip without any pinky extension.

A friend picked up a Colt delta elite in 10mm as his woods gun. He's very happy with it.

Fyi.. M&P just came out with their new 10mm pistol and Sig Sauer also makes a 10mm pistol.

M&P has yet to release a 10rnd mag for theirs, which sucks cause that was my first choice

Unless the Delta Elite is specifically really what you want, personally I'd suggest possibly looking into some other options. This may be an unpopular opinion with some, I dunno, but in my opinion when you buy a colt 1911, these days, you are spending a lot on the name and not so much on quality and features.
Beyond that, the early 10mm Delta Elites had well known slide cracking issues, and while that's supposedly a fixed issue now.. it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for them. In general Colt went through some hard times in terms of quality control. For various reasons personally I'm not totally convinced that reputation is fully repaired.
Then again, that said, the other best options for a 10mm 1911 are probably Kimber, which I also have quality control concerns with based on their past, or maybe Springfield , which comes with a different host of issues... but.. S&W.. Ruger.. a half dozen other names, all have had some pretty bad missteps in both quality and gun control issues So.. eh.. if you're gonna buy, you gotta buy from somebody.

Can't agree with this more. There are a lot of great 1911s out there now. Look around.

I am not swayed to one side or the other, a 1911 was just the firearm that I thought was going to be able to get at the time( Went there asked if they had any 10s in stock, they told me they'd see if they had sources for something, told me they had a source for a 1911) turns out their source were dried up, and they had gotten a Glock 29sf in since the last time I spoke to them

That said, would I every own a Colt Delta, meh. Again, it was just the one I shot and liked the caliber.

I guess the G29sf for right now is not going to happen. Watch mid week post from me " Hey look at the G29 I bought" because I change my mind on everything.
