Good leather holster recommendations.

So, ive decided to carry my Ruger GP100 3 inch occasionally.
I love this gun and its my best shooter for me.
Im looking for a sturdy leather holster that will keep the gun close to my side.
Price isnt important for the right holster.
Most ive looked at are just ugly.
Also, the huge rubber grips are unsightly and "stick" to my cloths.
Who makes good aftermarket grips for a GP100? Maybe similar to the hard plastic grips on the SP101.

For an EDC choice as substaintial as a GP100, I am assuming you would be looking for an OWB pancake with an extended body shield. In that case I would consider Wright Leatherworks and a good belt such as Beltman.

Yes, OWB.
Its really not that big without the monstrous grips. A full size 45 is longer and almost as wide.

Alessi holsters in cheektowaga are my favorite holsters hands down. I've had many others, but none compare. They will modify to suit your needs, repair anything, and the prices are reasonable for their superb quality. Many designs to choose from as well. I have a business card here somewhere...you think I could find it ? Of course not ! They have a website though, you can find that easily enough.

I have a Tucker pancake and two layer gun belt for my commander 45. I'm happy, but both are very stiff and break-in takes time...still a bit stiff, but I figure that's and indication of longevity.

Milt Sparks is another fine choice. What I found, however, if you like Milt Sparks holsters but you do not want to wait 20 weeks and maybe save a couple bucks, Tim Thurner at TTgunleather has multiple slightly tweaked versions, with meticulous workmanship, and a 2 to three week turnaround. I own one Milt Sparks but eight TTgunleathers. Tim has a few seasonal specials and offers discounts for Military, Veterans, Law Enforcement, and EMS. For some gun models, topgunsupply does have some Milt Spark models in stock (black only) and they also stock the fine Ritchie holsters on the same basis.

I have become a big fan of MASC holsters. They are handmade from Turkey(the Turks have been known for their leather craftsmanship). I found them on Amazon and have one for my Glock 30, 19 and my Colt Mustang. I used to be a Galco guy but these are, at least in my opinion, better or the same quality and durability as Galco for about $30-$40 bucks less. The retention is great and the disappear under a shirt pretty well. When you are wearing a suit or coat can't see a thing.

I found Draw-EZ helps condition and break in a leather holster really nice. One bottle does 3-4 holsters.

As a holster maker I don't recommend any 'Softening' agents to be used on holsters. They are stiff for a reason - for proper retention of the firearm in the holster. A slightly damp cloth is about all I would use to clean and if it's showing signs of wear then an acrylic clear sealer can be used to renew the finish. At least on my holsters anyway. Mine are properly treated when they are made and should be good to go for the life of the holster.
If you have trouble drawing from a new holster, place your gun in a walmart bag and stuff it in the holster over night. That will loosen it up a bit. A lot of issues can come from the front sight hitting the leather. Check that out too. My first holster ever years ago was an Alessi and it had that trouble. Surprisingly enough.....
Mostly just wearing it for a few days will loosen it up from your body moisture and heat.

I agree with Ritchie Leather and Alessi Holsters. You can't go wrong with either of these.

Skip Ritchie worked with Lou Alessi in Alessi's shop back in the day. While the description of their relationship is different based upon who you talk with, the similarities between the two products (at least before Lou passed) is unmistakable. I have rigs from both Alessi and Ritchie, and they're nearly identical in every aspect. They're both top-notch. They can be expensive, but you get what you pay for.

The other leather guy I recommend is Bob Cutt. He's a small one-man operation. Just about everything he does is custom. I've had beers and swapped war stories with him on a couple of occasions. Very good people.
