Good Local Rochester Gun Shop

In rochester area and Im wondering who people are buying from and patronizing now with Pro Gun Services closing in Farmington and Jacksons guns closed. I look at Gander but I prefer to go to local guys to buy and what not. but have not found a good replacement yet. Ive been to the shop in Lakeville before but what or who have all you guys go to with these stores gone. Has decent selection and what not.

I know there was Liberty or whatever in Cndga but I think they moved.....

I go to F&S for regular shit usually, but if I want something special or just wanna make it local, I still see Mike at AllStar.

Beikirch's in East Rochester has the best selection and best prices on firearms, ammo, reloading and shooting supplies of any LGS that I've seen around the Rochester area. Good group of guys working there too. Once in a while you'll have to interrupt some of the regulars who want to sit on the stool and shoot the shit with the counters guys all day, but I've always had great service there.

The Firing Pin in Bergen also has a good group of very pro-2A owners. They have a pretty decent selection of firearms and ammo, and also rent out a fair amount of guns for use on their indoor range if you wanna try before you buy. They also provide a pretty wide array of gunsmithing services from what I hear, but I haven't used them for anything so I can't vouch for them on price/quality etc.

My only experience with Kinton in Canadaigua was purchasing a LPK last year. Nice little shop, good selection. My Brother In Law has bought a fair amount of firearms from them in the past couple years, he's always been pleased.

There's also Frank Femia from KlubFunStore. He's a home based FFL with a small showroom available by appt only, but can order you just about anything. Great guy.

The Firing Pin in Bergen is the best all around gun shop and they have a range you can shoot at. Nice people.

Beikirchs is the only classic gun shop left on the East side. They will give you good service if you ask but otherwise the sales folk entertain themselves. They don't have much in black rifles, are pretty good with pistols and used. They often have competitive prices on ammo, especially shotgun. Their guns aren't cheap but sometimes they have a good deal on used.

Burnt Mills Engineering in Churchville is a good gunsmithing shop with some used stuff for sale.

Sycamore Hill Designs in Victor does custom stocks and refinishing, some gunsmithing on older collectibles and has some interesting stuff to browse.

Buffalo Gun Center has a large selection of cool stuff and if you are direct and to the point the salesmen will be helpful, they just don't cater to window shopping dillydallying. They also have good prices on ammo. Because sometimes they can be dicks I have gone there to check a gun out and then ordered it elsewhere.

Eddie Gunks/Bullet Guy downstate is the black rifle guy to talk to and order from, he will help you and he knows his shit.

You can order ammo at better prices and it can be delivered to your residence but better to discuss this privately.

I will avoid the big box idiots at all costs except when they have 12 gauge birdshot under $55/case. But I have to shower afterwards.

Thanks for the info. Ive been gathering that seeing his ( Bullet Guy) posts and stuff... as next year I will be in the market for a black gun. I was looking to do a sporting rifle in 223 right before the safe act came! but now I know they have reconfigured stocks so now we can sorta have semi autos again. Gotta save my pennys for a good semi black gun though.
Sounds like worth a trip down to see him and what not.

+1 to The Firing Pin, I always forget to mention that because I have to drive 30m to get there, I don't consider it "local" but I should have mentioned it. Took the wife there the other night for Valentine's Day, she had a good time overall. There was some crazy talk going on at the counter when we got there about "taking our guns and Albany" that weirded her out, I just told her to dismiss it.

They have good prices on ammo when I'm there to buy a box or two. I've bought some accessories and stuff there, and they're usually really friendly. I had a bad experience there once with one of the dudes behind the counter, but after talking to Brandon, I haven't had an issue. I'm glad for that because my options for shooting are far or not cheap, so this is a good compromise. I'd rather not have it fucked up by someone on a power trip. We're all in this together.

Anyways, I recommend them as well.

If I'm ever downstate, I'll take a look at BG, just gotta.

Pro Gun is no real loss for me, even though I live within walking distance of where they were.

Liberty was a joke. Kinton now occupies their space. I haven't been in there yet.

I walked into Beikirch's and asked about a blue-label Glock. They quoted me $25 off MSRP. Yeah, no.

I've picked up two Glocks from Field & Stream in Henrietta. One was used, and one was new. Got them both for a song. The guys behind the counter were great too.

I still bypass about 10 shops to make the drive to The Firing Pin in Bergen. They're great in there. No pretentiousness, no attitude, no BS. They're real decent, down-to-earth folks in there. Their prices aren't always the best, but their customer service more than makes up for it.

There's really only one guy there that I talk to and I kinda try to wait for him. He's an older guy who doesn't try to push anything and gives an honest opinion. Since I'm "newer" to shooting than he is, I haven't detected a bias yet, but I could be wrong. He used to competition shoot and talked up my Savage a good deal before I bought it. I think he would have done the same thing w/ anything I was looking to buy, but if it was a piece of shit, he'd tell me.

TFP does blue label Glock too. Maybe you already know.

Also, like mentioned, I'm glad the attitude is gone from TFP. I don't know who the guy was, but after my interaction with him, another counter person actually apologized for him. I was a little blown away. Since then it has been nothing but rainbows.

Yep. I get all of my blue-label stuff from them now. They also get all of my transfers.

Recently, I've been in there a couple of times a week to use the range. It's nice to have a place to shoot when the weather sucks. I've also brought a half-dozen different people in there to shoot, and they like the place too. It's definitely worth the 30-mile drive from the east side.

Rush. Bristol. Bergen. All about the same distance for me. Canandaigua was closer, but their facilities were lacking. I hear they've made improvements though.
I'm itching to get back outside and get on a 200-yard range. Maybe this weekend.

Another store for black guns is the custom gun shop in walworth, ny. Their website doesn't really show exactly what they are like (it is short on pics), but they have AR parts in stock and guys who know how to make use of them.

The cheapest place in town for AR parts will definitely be KFSWNY.COM Comming soom, which is operated out of the guy's basement. Not as scary as it sounds; give him a call and then you just show up.

That is my main complaint with it. They jack around all day while you're standing there. A couple of the guys are not so bad, but a couple are.
