Good range for non-hunters?

I've found a lot of these places I've visited (I'm in my early 30s) see me as just some kid who they don't want at their club. They want to emphasize the trap shooting part or the hunting element of their range, something which I don't have a lot of interest in.

Where can I find a range that doesn't emphasize the hunting element heavily, and also would accept someone younger like myself at their range?

My rifle of choice is an AK as well -- which, I think carries a bit of a stigma with it. I personally love AKs, and love working on them. I feel like that isn't helping my case in joining a range as well...

I dont know where you are but we have several ranges in Chautauqua Co that would welcome you. They are always looking for young shooters and all people and all guns are welcomed.

Sorry, a bit confused. Are you recommending a place?

No, I am saying you should include your location so you don't get recommendations on ranges from all over NYS.

If you don't mind crossing the river, Monroe-Chester, Woodbury and Blackrock are all good clubs. Some have a waiting list though.

We are quite far from you but Falconer R&G and Carrol R&G have nice facilities and very friendly. They are both clubs but they do not refuse anyone and are very inexpensive. Carrol is $25 a year and Falconer is $40 a year. Both have pistol, rifle, bow, and trap and skeet.

Yeah that's just too far for me, unfortunately. It would have to be within an hour, max, so I could realistically visit it on a weekend and drive back.

Sorry, but I'm not dropping $1600 (or so I was told) the first year on Whortlekill considering I wouldn't make any use of a large portion of the services those fees go towards.

You get those looks because Glocks are down right ugly.

You can check out my club New Bremen Fish and Game Club, don't let the name fool you we are a Rifle and Handgun shooting club with a range complex out to 400 yards. Bring your AK up and have a ball.
