I only get 15 sick days a year. If this proposal passes, maybe I can get a few more.
What government regulation on Healthcare has been benifical to society that the free maket could not have done better?I'm sort of in this camp as well. I don't blame capitalism for wanting to constantly increase profit margins and be profit centric. That's the fuel that propels the engine.
It's up to "the people" sit really set the guidelines around how much freedom that process has to develop naturally. Medicine is a perfectly example of where we, as a society, have to set some limits around what a "health care" provider really is, what duties is much fulfill, etc. You set the parameters, like the rules of a race or a baseball game, and then you let it unfold organically without specifying every single individual action or strategy. (We're just starting to hit some of these growing pains when it comes to social media, and how we want to classify such companies.)
I do not find a company in the wrong for looking out for their shareholders. A good company puts their bottom lines first, that's just good business.
The answer to your question is competition. But that competition has regulations in place. You asked the question about unions. The answer is China, North Korea, Vietnam, and every 3rd world shit hole. The only thing that doesn't support your hypothesis is the evidence. Non union jobs today tend to pay more.
I've heard the "with no unions, we'd have bad working conditions" myth many times. Not only is that not true, as you can voluntarily leave any job that doesn't suit you at any time, and when enough workers do that, a company can't survive, but even if it were true, you are entitled to exactly nothing you do not agree to when you accept the job.
Here is a question for you: By law, the minimum a job can pay you is the minimum wage. Why do some workers not get paid the minimum wage?
Why do people get paid more than the minimum wage? The answer to your question is competition. But that competition has regulations in place. You asked the question about unions. The answer is China, North Korea, Vietnam, and every 3rd world shit hole.
Almost every 1st world country has unions.
I answered that above. Competition. But no company is competing in sick days other than one offers sick days and another offers none. No company is on a competition war trying to give more sick days than another to keep their employees. They do that with pay to a certain point. When you find two companies trying to outdo one another on sick days to try to stay competitive, let me know. Why do people get paid more than the minimum wage?
A care not of what "almost every 1st world nation" does. They ban guns too, so their examples are irrelevant.
That makes no sense whatsoever.I answered that above. Competition. But no company is competing in sick days other than one offers sick days and another offers none. The big disconnect is you refusing to see that companies don’t compete on paid sick or vacations. They do so with pay. Most of the time you don’t even know how many sick days you get or what type of medical they offer on interview time. It’s usually talk about pay and perhaps if a 401k is offered. You are selling yourself to get hired. Sick days is rarely discussed if you are smart and want the job. You find out whatever benefits you get later from Human Resources. That makes no sense whatsoever.
Benifits are often laid out at the interview, if not before. Some companies offer paid vacation and sick, some do not. People still accept those jobs that do not.
Where is the big disconnect?
If you are smart you find all that stuff out before you accept the job.The big disconnect is you refusing to see that companies don’t compete on paid sick or vacations. They do so with pay. The company I work for ditched our sick days last year. They ended up giving us 40 hrs extra PTO instead if I remember correctly.
I'll never get back what I put into it and neither will you. What a ponzi scheme.Everyone wants government off their back until it’s time to collect social security and Medicare.
Everyone wants government off their back until it’s time to collect social security and Medicare.
It'll never happen. But they DAMN well will return the money they've already stolen from me!
So it must not be that important then right? The big disconnect is you refusing to see that companies don’t compete on paid sick or vacations. They do so with pay. ???
If an applicant isn’t seeking out this info to compare the total compensation package, that’s their own fault.
It'll never happen.
That money is long gone. You've got better odds getting your money out of Bernie Madoff.
Yep. Pretty much.So it must not be that important then right?

Look at the top 10 companies to work for, all have PTO and / or sick days.
Treat your employees like shit, they work like shit. Treat them good and they will work better, be happier and retention and productivity will increase. I see it first hand every day.
