(TOWN OF DICKINSON) The Broome County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on their enforcement efforts following County Executive Garnar’s State of Emergency declaration on May 11, 2023. The state of emergency was enacted in response to New York City’s reported efforts to relocate large groups of individuals to Upstate counties. The Executive Order prohibits hotels and multiple dwellings from contracting with municipalities to house large groups of individuals due to the extensive shortage of housing and human services available for current residents of Broome County.
Following the announcement members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol visited 34 hotels throughout Broome County, delivering physical copies of the executive order and informing owners and staff of both the law and the $2,000 penalty per-person, per-day levied at any hotel or business found in violation of it.
Deputies learned that a least two local hotels, the Quality Inn and Comfort Suites, both located in Vestal, had been contacted by a New York City-based organization on Tuesday, May 9th – two days before the order was issued. The organization sought to reserve blocks of at least 40 rooms for 6-12 months under a government rate for individuals the representative identified as migrants. The offers were declined by hotel management.
A third hotel was contacted seeking a similar arrangement but due to the vague nature of the call and lack of details, the source and goal of the call could not be confirmed.
Sheriff Fred Akshar said, “Our efforts to inform local hotel and business owners and the intelligence gathered confirms that New York City’s surreptitious efforts to relocate large groups of individuals to our community had begun before County Executive Garnar’s state of emergency declaration. The men and women of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office remain focused on the safety and security of the residents of Broome County, and we will continue making every effort to avoid and prevent unsafe situations or threats to public safety before they happen.”

Any official who is traveling along with the illegals, any group/corporation/non-profit who is involved in acquiring the rooms from the hotel, and any State official who is involved in giving authorization for these criminals to enter the State and be distributed.

The POS commiecrat Syracuse city police chief has already made a public statement saying that he isn’t going to enforce the County Executive’s recent state of emergency order, barring local hotels from contracting with NYC to house immigrants.

Sheriffs need to grow a pair of balls and start enforcing these executive orders. Arrest these people as they arrive and give them to ICE immediately. Remove them from the county on law breaking grounds. Make it clear if the buses arrive everyone involved in housing and transport will be arrested as aiding and abetting in a crime.

Just got off the phone with the county executive office. Pretty robotic call and I just voiced a vehement NO about the situation. After that I called my town supervisor. He is very like minded. He said his hands are tied and it needs to be done at the county level. Suggested calling Pat Ryan's office even though the guy is a lib. He did though tell me the two hotels in Highland that could be used have owners that have said they will absolutely not house any illegals.

Some local DAs should get creative.
They're not allowed to directly bring federal charges due to jurisdiction issues, but can they bring charges under state or local laws about harboring fugitives from justice (which the criminal aliens would be, every bit as much as a fleeing bank robber).

I would say no. Let's have an honest discussion on what grounds this is wrong. This is wrong because it violates our policies on immigration and our laws set forth. What's wrong is the people are here illegally, violating our laws, due to a failure to enforce our policy and make other nations deal with their citizens. The hotel is willing to house them -- that part isn't being forced.
